Opus 4 is a leading provider of workspace solutions. Whether you’re looking to refurbish an existing space,

or relocate to somewhere new, we design, manage and deliver spaces which enhance yourbusiness and the wellbeing of those within it.

Whilst it is true that technology is transforming the way we work and is shaping the modern workplace, it remains people who are the key ingredient to any successful business.

Our philosophy is geared around people-focused office design. A fit-out or refurbishment project can no longer be viewed as an overhead or a drain on resource. We can prove that a well-designed, ‘people-focused’ workplace can guarantee a significant return on investment in three clear ways:

By helping you to attract and retain a talented, successful workforce

By increasing productivity and wellbeing

By giving you a competitive advantage within your market sector

INTRODUCTION

Struggling to attract and retain the bestpeople is now regarded as the mostsignificant barrier to success for a business. Developing and maintaining a work culture is vital to maintaining a happy, motivatedworkforce and in turn, attracting talentednew employees.

In their influential annual ‘What Workers Want’ report, Hays, the recruitment experts, discovered that 62% of employees said they would be prepared to take a pay cut to work for an organisation that offered a better cultural fit.

A well-designed, contemporary workplace is now viewed as the starting point fordeveloping a cultural identity for your business. It should be a place which fosters collaboration, improves productivity and wellbeing and allows its inhabitants to carry out their work in a multitude of ways.

WORKPLACE CULTURE &

WINNING THE TALENT WAR

We embrace the latest philosophies andstudies in workplace design and introduce them to our clients. Biophilic design is an innovative way of bringing the natural, outside world into office environments.

Humans have a deep, fundamentalrelationship with nature. Yet in our working lives, the majority of us spend more than eight hours a day trapped within the confines of a building. Having limited access tosunlight, fresh air and the outside, natural world, can slowly erode our wellbeingand happiness.

Biophilic design helps to improve the spaces where we work by applying a nature-focused approach to the design process. This ranges from creating layouts which bring inhabitants closer to windows and natural light, tointroducing office plants, ‘living wall’installations and natural finishes to floorand wall surfaces.

THE FUTURE WORKPLACE IS ALREADY HERE

“Incorporating direct or indirect elements of nature into the built

environment has been demonstrated to reduce stress, blood

pressure levels and heart rates, whilst increasing productivity,

worker concentration and self-reported rates of wellbeing”.Oliver Heath

DESIGN TEAM

FURNITURE Our furniture experts have more than twenty years of experience in the sourcing, ordering, supply and installation of furniture.

Agile working and technology has brought a seismic change in the styles of furniture which are being used in the modern workplace. Height adjustable desks, meeting pods, collaboration benches, touchdown space and coffee bars are prevalent in most officedesigns today.

We work with the best manufacturers and brands across the UK, Europe and the rest of the world to bring you perfectly tailoredsolutions to match any budget. We also analyse cost of ownership and life cycle models to ensure you always get the best valuefor money.

We’ve been successfully delivering fit-out and refurbishment projects since our inception in 1996. In all that time, we’ve remained some-what unique in our sector, by directly employing our own skilled workforce at the nucleus of every project. This gives us much greater control, and helps us to keep our costs down by avoiding a reliance on sub-contract labour.

We predominantly work on a design and build basis, handling all aspects of the project, and shouldering all risk and responsibilities in the process. Our work spans both Cat A and Cat B fit-outs and refurbishments across almost every business sector.

INTERIORCONTRACTING

Our promise is to deliver every project we do professionally, safely, on-time and within budget. Our contract delivery team has an abundance of experience in managing and delivering successful projects, from start to finish. Our team includes qualified project man-agers, quantity surveyors, estimators and health & safety managers who’s meticulous approach leaves no stone unturned.

CASE STUDIES

Reliable Source is a niche supplier of specialistself-adhesive tape. Their products are used across adiverse range of industries, including engineering, automotive, agricultural, aerospace and construction. An opportunity arose to purchase a run-down property on the edge of Chislehurst High Street. The two story building had some interesting features from its previous use, including a walk-in safe with the original full height door, but was unloved and needed completely gutting.

Opus 4 was appointed to design, manage and implement a major building refurbishment. The business owners wanted to reflect the playful, fun nature of the company culture within the new office design. Talented tape artists were appointed to create feature walls, and multi-coloured strips of tape were used to create design features in an otherwise bland commonareas. Many of the original features were retained and complimented the furniture and bright finished to complete a vibrant look, full of the client’s personality.

Alix Partners is a global pioneer in corporate turnaround, restructuring and financial consultancy services. They help companies through difficult times, helping to save their future, their assets and jobs.

In 2016, the London arm of the business was operating from two separate locations. There was a need to bring theseoffices together so they could work more efficiently andeffectively. An award winning office development, 6 New Street Square, was selected and after a fiercely competitive bidding process, involving international design and fit-outconsultancies, Opus 4 was selected as the designer, projectmanager and fit-out partner for the project.

The six month, two-phased programme involved forming new partitioned walls, solid, seamless glazed and facetedfeature glazing. There were major modifications to theexisting heating and cooling systems to suit the new layouts, new feature flooring enhancements, decoration, voice and data and access control systems.

New seating, desking and storage was selected, supplied and installed throughout. This included a specialist seatingsolution from one of the market leading ergonomicbrands, RH Chairs, part of Scandinavian Business Seating. Desking and storage came from the UK’s largest office furniture manufacturer, the Senator Group.

Haseltine Lake is a leading international intellectual property practice. For a business sector which has historically been one of the most resistant to workplace change, they took the bold step to move towards a contemporary, agile working model. They realised that an agile workplace would not only improve productivity, but would help the practice to attract and retain an exceptional, class-leading workforce. In the first instance, the client looked to test the agile working concept on a small, busy department within the business.

The Opus 4 design team fused together a range of ideas to create a fresh, contemporary and agile workspace. Collaborative workbenches, poseur height tables, quiet pods, sit-stand desks, ergonomic chairs, moss walls and 3D acoustic screens were all brought together to transform the way the department worked. The new agile space has been a tremendous success and the client now plans to roll out the concept across the rest of their HQ and their other office locations.

SmartSearch is a market leading provider of anti-money laundering and instant verification software platforms. To facilitate their exponential growth, they identified a new building in Ilkley, West Yorkshire, to relocate their headquarter operation to. From the outset, SmartSearch had a very clear vision of what they wanted to achieve. The new headquarters had to have the wow factor in order to attract new employees into thebusiness. Equally, the existing staff had ensured unsuitable office accommodation for several years, working in poorlydesigned, cluttered space with a dearth of collaboration, multifunction, training and meeting spaces. After a detailed, competitive, bidding process, SmartSearch felt that only Opus 4 fully understood their brief and instructedus to do the design, management, fit-out and furnitureprocurement for the 18,000 sq ft. project. Great emphasis was placed on getting the design and specification exactly right, and the client expressed from the outset, they wanted to be heavily

involved in the process. The pre-construction phase lasted for six months, with a project team made up of key members from both companies. The net result of this detailed process was that 90% of what was initially designed and conceptualised, ended up in the finished project. With such a wide array of areas within the space to encourage collaboration and flexible working, the furniture was always going to be the nucleus of the project. Following a visit to Clerkenwell – the mecca of the UK commercial furniture market – an eclectic range of products were selected frommanufacturers including Senator, Orangebox, Frovi, Gresham, Sven, Viasit, Receptek, 4D Creations and Vantage Spaces. The project has been an astounding success, already paying dividends to the client. Within the first week of moving in, a recruitment drive to attract new millennial employees began and the allure of the new workplace was seen as a key driver in recruiting the best calibre of candidates.
