National Energy Policy 2003, Upstream Industry Policy
Geothermal Law No. 27 / 2003, Artc 10
Minister Reg. MEMR No. 0030 / 2005
Exploration for geothermal resources by the government can be done until finding proven reserve.
Increasing potential inventory and evaluation by intensive exploration to change the potential status from speculative and hypothetical resources to reserves of possible, probable and proven.
• Government and Local Government conduct preliminary survey
• Exploration can be done by government
Agency of Geology (AG) has a task to carry out research, investigation, inventory, exploration and serving for geological resources.

KETERANGAN :
•
Geothermal locations in Indonesia are mainly distributed along
the Indonesian Vulcanic
Belts, however some are also in association with non vulcanic
environments (intrusive, tectonics).
•
By 2007, there are 256 geothermal locations invented with the total energy potential of about 27.5 GWe. From these, 203 locations (80%) associate to vulcanic
environments and 53 locations (20%) are non vulcanic
geothermal association such as in the larger part of Sulawesi, West Kalimantan, and Papua.
•
The geothermal locations are mainly (163 locations or 63.7%) in stage of preliminary Survey, 78 locations or 30.5 % of detailed with or without core hole temperature survey, 8 locations or 3.1 % of exploration drilling/ready to develop, and 7 locations or 2.7 %
of installed.
•
The total installed capacity is 807 MWe
or about 30% of the proven reserve or less than 3 % from the total energy potential. These include 330 MWe
in G. Salak, 140 MWe
in Kamojang, 145 MWe
in Darajat, 110 MWe
in Wayang
Windu, 60 MWe
in Dieng, 20 MWe
in Lahendong
, and 2 MWe
in Sibayak.

POSSIBLY CANDITATE GEOTHERMAL WORKING AREA
1. EX. PERTAMINA WORKING AREAS (16 WKP)
2. DETAILED SURVEY AREAS BY AGENCY OF GEOLOGY
• Indonesian geothermal resources potential is abundant (~ 27.5 GWe)
• Almost a half of them are still in the stage of preliminary survey and need to be increased their status
• Suitable methods for research and survey are necessary to be improved particularly on non vulcanic
geothermal
environments
• Government through the Agency of Geology has a policy for research, survey, servicing and joint cooperation, and providing geothermal data and information
• Involving the government in geothermal survey and exploration is to obtain preliminary data and minimize investment risk.
