Transcript of Intro to camera settings

The most essential element of photography: Light

Exposure =Aperture + shutter speed + ISO

Metering the Light = Exposure

• An aperture relates to the circular opening in the lens that gets bigger or smaller, shown in ‘f’ numbers

• The shutter speed relates to the amount of time the ‘shutter’ remains open for.

• ISO relates to how ‘sensitive’ the camera sensor is.

APERTURE affects ‘Depth of Field’

Fast Shutter Speed

Slow shutter speed

SHUTTER SPEED affects the capture of ‘Movement’

• Getting a ‘correct’ exposure is about creating a balance between the 3 main camera settings. • Adjusting one means you must compensate with the others.

It’s all about BALANCE!

Quick Quiz

shape?• What is the thing that increases or decreases

film/digital sensor sensitivity?• What is the thing that opens and closes for a

specified amount of time?• What does a light metre help you do?
