Intimacy With Jesus, pt. 2

John 15:1-4 - “I am the true grapevine, and my Father is the gardener. 2He cuts off every branch of mine that doesn’t produce fruit, and he prunes the branches that do bear fruit so they will produce even more.

3You have already been pruned and purified by the message I have given you. 4Remain in me, and I will remain in you. For a branch cannot produce fruit if it is severed from the vine, and you cannot be fruitful unless you remain in me. NLT

John 15:5-8 – “Yes, I am the vine; you are the branches. Those who remain in me, and I in them, will produce much fruit. For apart from me you can do nothing.

6Anyone who does not remain in me is thrown away like a useless branch and withers. Such branches are gathered into a pile to be burned. 7But if you remain in me and my words remain in you, you may ask for anything you want, and it will be granted!

8When you produce much fruit, you are my true disciples. This brings great glory to my Father. NLT

The Fruit of the FleshGalatians 5:19-21

When you follow the desires of your sinful nature, the results are very clear: sexual immorality, impurity, lustful pleasures, 20idolatry, sorcery, hostility, quarreling, jealousy, outbursts of

anger, selfish ambition, dissension, division, 21envy, drunkenness, wild parties, and other sins like these. NLT

1 Corinthians 3:10-15 - Because of God’s grace to me, I have laid the foundation like an expert builder. Now others are building on it. But whoever is building on this foundation must be very careful. 11For no one can lay any foundation other than the one we already have—Jesus Christ.

12Anyone who builds on that foundation may use a variety of materials—gold, silver, jewels, wood, hay, or straw. 13But on the judgment day, fire will reveal what kind of work each builder has done. The fire will show if a person’s work has any value.

14If the work survives, that builder will receive a reward. 15But if the work is burned up, the builder will suffer great loss. The builder will be saved, but like someone barely escaping through a wall of flames. NLT

John 5:19 & 30 - So Jesus explained, “I tell you the truth, the Son can do nothing by himself. He does only what he sees the Father doing. Whatever the Father does, the Son also does.

30I can do nothing on my own. I judge as God tells me. Therefore, my judgment is just, because I carry out the will of the one who sent me, not my own will. NLT

The Fruit of the SpiritGalatians 5:22-23

But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23gentleness, and self-control. NLT

Jerusalem - A Useless Vine

Ezekiel 15:1-8 - Then this message came to me from the Lord: 2“Son of man, how does a grapevine compare to a tree? Is a vine’s wood as useful as the wood of a tree?

3Can its wood be used for making things, like pegs to hang up pots and pans? 4No, it can only be used for fuel, and even as fuel, it burns too quickly. 5Vines are useless both before and after being put into the fire!

6And this is what the Sovereign LORD says: The people of Jerusalem are like grapevines growing among the trees of the forest. Since they are useless, I have set them aside to be burned!

7And I will see to it that if they escape from one fire, they will fall into another. When this happens, you will know that I am the LORD. 8And I will make the land desolate because my people have been unfaithful to me, says the Sovereign LORD. NLT

By his outward following he gave the appearance of being a disciple but inwardly he was not and he was discarded.

The Judas Branch

1 John 2:18-19 – Dear children, the last hour is here. You have heard that the Antichrist is coming, and already many such antichrists have appeared.

Antichrists

From this we know that the end of the world has come. 19These people left our churches because they never really belonged with us; otherwise they would have stayed with us.

When they left us, it proved that they do not belong with us. NLT

John 15:8 - My true disciples produce much fruit. ... NLT

True Disciples

John 15:7– But if you remain in me and my words remain in you, you may ask for anything you want, and it will be granted! NLT

John 15:8 - When you produce much fruit, you are my true disciples. This brings great glory to my Father. NLT
