There are over 60 million teachers in the world (educators andadministrators in basic and post-basic education, tertiaryeducation, and both non-formal and informal learning by bothyoung people and adults)– and each one is a key agent forbringing about the changes in lifestyles and systems that weneed for delivering the educational response to sustainabledevelopment. The key role of educators as agents of change iswhat we need to focus on to start building a community of like-minded educators from around the world with interests inprogressing education in our changing environmental, social,and economic global landscape. Empowering teachers fromacross the world to connect may light the fire that sendseducation reform into a whole new era.

Be able to take a multi-dimensional perspective on all 17 SDGs and be aware that Agenda 2030 alsoincludes 169 targets for the implementation of the goals
Be able to identify with other members of school/community/organisation which goals could beconsidered priorities and catalytic for the successful implementation of other goals
Have explored how different SDGs interrelate and how projects can be created that aim toimplement progress on various SDGs at the same time

Sanne pursued her Masters of Art at the ‘Erasmus University’ in theNetherlands and specialised in Education through the Post-graduate TeacherTraining Program in Art and Culture at the Leiden University where shereceived the highest teaching qualification in Art Education. She studied at theDutch Academy of Performing Arts to become a Musical Performer and hasperformed in a variety of shows and presented a program on Dutch televisionabout guerilla gardening. Next to her career as a teacher and performer, shealso took a university degree in Music and received a Bachelor of MusicEducation at the ‘Royal Conservatoire The Hague’. She further developed herskills by completing the Design for Sustainability (GEDS) programme withGaia Education which deepened her understanding of the four dimensions ofsustainable community design and got her diploma as a Facilitator of ‘InnerLandscaping’ which explores story as a potent force for change, increasing ourconscious awareness of our individual, social and cultural story. After workingas a senior lecturer at the University of Applied Sciences, and as a ResearchFellow at the Amsterdam Creative Industries Centre of Expertise, Sanne VanOort’s focus on Education for Sustainability led her to become Director ofLearning and Teaching & Teacher Development and Well-Being Manager atGreen School Bali to further focus on the way we can design education tocreate a shift in culture towards pro-environmental behavior. She is theFounder of ‘Mother Jungle’, which empowers Indigenous women to preserveknowledge and storytelling traditions for cultural and environmentalconservation. Her journey continued in Hanoi, Vietnam where she is currentlyworking at the first Green School of Vietnam, called Genesis School, as a Headof ESL and Green Education.
