INEXPENSIVE BOOKS FOR TEACHING,THE CLASSICS: 19TH ANNUAL LIST
The following includes paper and cloth coveredtranslations of classical texts and books aboutGreece and "lome, up to and including $3.00. It doesnot include texts in the original languages, gram-mars, etc., which form the subject of our "Text-books" list to be published in April. Also excludedare works of fiction and books intended for childrenbelow the seventh grade. The list is confined toworks in English published in the United States andCanada. The listing should prove helpful for coursesin classical literature in translation, classical civili-zation, etc., and for supplementary reading incourses in Latin and Greek.
Within the above limits, completeness has beenaimed at, in the listing as such, as well as in theindication of contents, translators, etc. As always, the data are as accurate as it was humanly possibleto get them. For the sake of such accuracy, we haveagain removed any items for which we could notfind independent confirmation, when a publisherchose not to respond to either our original requestor its follow-up plea. Comparison with last year'slist will reveal many changes in details, while theonly general alteration is that we have remcred allmention of separate prices for Canada, as these hadbeen made available to us very eclectically, andtheir verification involved even greater difficultythan that of the regular (American) figure3. Natu-rally, prices and availabiaity are subject to changewithout notice.
TJsers of this list are requested to mention it intheir contacts with publishers, and they are advised
to inquire about teachers' discounts. Some publish-ers charge postage on orders from individuals.
Readers may wish to familiarize themselves with"Paperbound Books in Print," published monthly byR. R. Bowker Co 1180 Ave. of the Americas, N.Y.10036 (subscription $23.50 a year). They should noteespecially the three annual cumulative issues ($18.50;$9.25 ea.).
