More than 4,300 people die by suicide in England and Wales each year.

This equates to almost 12 each day.

In India, attempted suicide is a punishable crime by up to one year in prison and/or fine.

The same law applies in Singapore.

Suicide (and also attempted suicide) was illegal under English Law but ceased to be an offence

with the passing of the Suicide Act 1961.(Wiki 2008)

Died aged 18

“I don't think I'll ever be able to forget her. She was someone

who was so intelligent, amazing, beautiful, and most of all

someone who I looked up to”

AnnaAfter issuing an online plea for help,

her friends on a website she volunteered on got in touch with her

college.

Staff from the college broke into her room, but it was too late.

Anna was already dead.

Sheridan Vivian

1987-2007

“Hiding behind my lies..

I'm a mess that I despise.

Inevitably I'll fall. Now that I've learnt

Lovecannotconquerall”

Sheridan/SheriSheri took an overdose of Paracetomol and died in her Gran’s arms.

Her death was slow and painful.

"I'm just some girl with a dream of a life worth living for.

I want to become a counsellor - one of the best!

I want to hang onto the people important to me - and not

have them leave me.

I want to be loved - is that so much to ask?"

internet)

In Loving Memory of…

Moira VivianAge 42

Left behind 2 daughters and a loving husband

Moira Vivian was Sheri’s mum.

Only 6 months after Sheri’s suicide, Moira took a cocktail of drugs and sadly passed away.

She could not cope with the death of her eldest daughter, and had told family members that she was to blame for Sheri’s death. She was convinced she could have done more.

Telling her family she was going to the cinema, Moira left her family home never to return. She was missing for 6 days before a retired police officer found her body while he was walking his dog.

Stuart Collins

12.3.71 - 3.12.04

Stuart left behind a loving partner and 2

young daughters

A piece of Stuart’s art work clearly shows the amount of distress he

was in

The inevitable part is the fact that you are still here and the people closest to you live day by day in a deep sadness – you have let them down and it will never be the same. They also live with a silent dread of if and when you might try again. Their sleepless nights, phone calls just to check you are still around. You realise you have created a bigger agony that has spread to others.

We cannot change the past, but we can make the future better.

NEVER think that somebody might be lying about having suicidal thoughts. TAKE IT SERIOUSLY – it really is a matter of life

or death.

Whose name will be here

next?

?

Not long before her death Sheri wrote a poem

expressing her feelings.

Please read this on the handout you’ve been

given.
