100 Days at School Celebration Last week, our Foundation students celebrated 100 days of schooling. What a lot of learning has occurred in such
a short time! These students have begun reading, know their letters and sounds and engage in Maths activities.
Also, importantly, they have learnt to work together in groups, co-operate with each other and demonstrate our
school values of Respect, Responsibility, Resilience, Honesty and Learning.
I asked some Foundation students from 0ER the following question…………
What have you learnt in your first 100 days at school?
“Counting past 100.” Cedar
“Singing the days of the week in order” Daniel
“I have learnt to make bundles with my straws” Peter
“To treat each other nicely and show respect” Ava
“Learnt to use alliteration in my writing” Joshua
“I have learnt to read and use ‘Stretchy Snake’ to sound out the tricky words” Xoe
“To use ‘ch’, ‘th’ and ‘ng’ to help me read” Jordan
“To use the ‘power of 3’ in my writing” Jye
“To say hello in Italian – Ciao” Tanner
“To stop the ball in soccer using my feet with Mr.Carroll” Samuel
“I have learnt to share and use manners” Alessandra
Pictured here are the Foundation students bringing out their chairs into the courtyard preparing for a game of
Musical Chairs. With 100 chairs it was a mammoth game!
Helping your child to read, write, speak and listen in the Early Years
Reading with your child will begin when your child becomes familiar
with the story and can take over some of the reading.
When your child reads to you, allow time for working out words and
ask questions to see if he or she understands what they have read.
If your child is trying to read a long or tricky word, give your child time
and ask questions like these:
• Look at the picture, what can you see that might start with
that letter?
• Look at the picture, what word makes sense?
• What letter does it start with? What sound does the letter
make?
• What letter does it end with?
It’s also important for you to show
your child how you read every day
for different purposes, for example:
recipes, greeting cards, calendars,
shopping lists, food labels,
instructions, maps, newspapers,
emails, signs, and websites.

PEER OBSERVATIONS
Over the next three weeks all teachers, in addition to Mrs Ireland and I, will be working in groups of
three for our peer observations. Teachers from different year levels will be paired together to
observe each other teach a writing lesson. These lessons will draw on what teachers gained from
the 5th August Curriculum Day on Text Writing with Ann Angelopoulos.
Following the lessons the group of three will get together to share
constructive feedback. It is a wonderful opportunity for teachers to
demonstrate their craft to their peers, to learn from the techniques of
others, and to receive positive and useful feedback that
acknowledges their abilities and feeds them forward on their practice.

Drawing and Photography CompetitionDrawing and Photography CompetitionDrawing and Photography CompetitionDrawing and Photography Competition The upcoming drawing and photography competition is being promoted in our school as
a fun, enjoyable and an optional student activity. There are two competitions but one
student may only enter one competition for a fair game. Both competitions are already
underway and the entries must be given to your classroom teacher by the 10th of August.
The drawing competition is open to all ages, foundation to year six, whereas the photography competition is only open for years three to six.
we are following a specific theme of sport/action for only our drawing competition
and our photography competition has no
theme.
All drawings and photos must be labelled on the back with the students’ name and class.
Drawings are to be on an A4 piece of paper.
All of the drawing entries are not to be traced or printed and all photograph entries are to
be original work and no selfies please!
If you are planning to take a photo of someone else you truly must have the
person’s permission.
Thank you for your time and we hope to see you enter ☺
