WHAT IS IMAGE PROCESSING?

WHY DO WE NEED IMAGE PROCESSING?

ACQUIRING IMAGE

TYPES OF IMAGE PROCESSING

SOME APPLICATIONS OF IMAGE PROCESSING

Image processing is any form of signal processing for which the input is an image, such as photograph or video frame, the output of image processing may be either an image or a set of characteristics or parameters related to the image.

The Internet and other sources provide countless images in standard formats.

The digital image can be optimized for theapplication by enhancing or altering theappearance of structures within it (based on:body part)

It might be possible to analyze the image in thecomputer and provide cues to the radiologists tohelp detect important structures (e.g.: ComputedAided Diagnosis, CAD)

Scientific instruments commonlyproduce images to communicate resultsto the operator, rather than generatingan audible tone.

Space missions to other planets alwaysinclude cameras as major components, and we judge the success of thosemissions by the quality of the imagesreturned.
