How ICT can support Technology
ICT in the Technology programme can be used in collecting and analysing, searching and researching, controlling and modelling and creating and presenting.
Skill in the use of ICT can be developed through pupils:
• Investigating sources of information from databases, encyclopaedias and the internet • Collecting, recording and presenting information using spreadsheets and associated charts and graphs • Drafting reports • Creating images of design solutions • Controlling devices and sensing or monitoring conditions.

Examples which ICT can support:• Measuring nonstandard units metres cm mm.• Scaling maps and mapping CAG ﴾presentation graphics﴿ / CAD ﴾drawing to scale﴿• Drawing 2D drawing 2D plans 3D nets perspective• Graphs reading plans and maps drawing basic circuits interpreting diagrams• Gears and levers• Electronics basic circuits• Control flowcharts CAD/CAM programming for control• Pneumatics applications of syringe valves pistons cylinders

Search skills for Investigating sources of information from databases, encyclopaedias and
the internet
One method of teaching information skills is that known as “the Big Six.” The following is an outline of the process described in this method. www.big6.com/kids/
1. Define the task what needs to be done?2. Information Seeking Strategies what resources can I use?3. Location and Access where can I find these resources?4. Use of information what can I use from these resources?5. Synthesis what can i make to finish the job?6. Evaluation how will I know I did my job well?

Use Information Magic Database to use Search skills for Investigating sources of information
from databases
15
Tips for Investigating sources of information from the internet
Put several key words in the search box to narrow a search
Use a search engine such as www.google.co.uk
Put an exact phrase in quotes e.g. "Falkirk Council"
Use the asterisk * in place of letters to find words with part of words or if there may be alternate spellings e.g. colo*r
16
Sensing or monitoring conditions

Use Microsoft Word to Draft Reports
Download reporting templates from http://office.microsoft.com templates
Create Planning diagram using Word drawing tools:•Click on View – Toolbars – Drawing.•Drawing toolbar will appear along the bottom of the screen.• Click on Autoshapes – Block Arrows.• Drag chosen shape to desired size.• Shape can be adjusted by pulling white or yellow handles• Rightclick on the shape and choose add text.• Right click on edge of a shape and choose Format AutoShape to adjust colours and thickness of lines.
