Iused to wonder what made them call such a day as this, goodFriday.I was taught that this day marks the death of our Lord Jesus Christ.Without reason He was brutally seized, tried and nailed to a cross to
die.
Then why should we set aside the day that reminds us of such an
undeserved death, and call it good?
Well, what I learned is this. The good is what comes to you and methrough that sacrificial death. On the cross of Calvary, Jesus Christ
suffered and died in our place so that we would not have to face Gods
judgment for our sins. He was wounded for our transgressions,
bruised for our iniquities and with His stripes we are healed (Isaiah
53:5). I have learned that if He had not died, there would be no peace,
no safety, no forgiveness for me. My sins deserved punishment; but
Jesus died for me.
Thats why its good, then. Because He suffered for sins, the Just
(Him) for the unjust (me) (1 Peter 3:18). Gods wrath was put on Jesus,
our debt of sin has been fully paid, and the door of Heaven has swung
open!
And the Lord didnt stay in the tomb. On the third day, as He fore-
told, Jesus arose. His resurrection was proof of who He is and what
He promised; eternal life to all who believe in Him.
Good Friday
Christ died for our sins
according to the scriptures..
He was buried..He rose again
on the third day according to
the scriptures (I Corinthians
15:3-4).

Stella was a senior journalist in
China. All her educational back-
ground and work experience were
based on the theory of commu-
nism. Before coming to Canada she
had never heard anything about the
gospel, the good news of salvation
through Jesus Christ.
In the spring of 2002, the second day after landing in Canada, shewas invited to see a baptism at Carleton Gospel Hall. From that day she
started to attend Sunday school and all the meetings there. Later she be-
came a student in the English Bible circle, too. She came to understand
that there is a God, but couldnt admit she was a sinner. She had lots of
questions and doubts. It just seemed so hard to believe. She felt that since
she wasnt young any more, she wasnt going to believe anything so eas-
ily. She wanted to be very careful about any decision regarding spiritual
things. She liked learning English from the Bible study but she didntwant to become a Christian or be baptized, because she feared these
things might be dangerous to her family. However, Gods assembly still
attracted her to keep coming to the meetings.
She got lots of help for daily life from the Christians around her. After
a period of time studying in the class and attending all the meetings, she
finally realized she really was a sinner and nothing but the blood of Jesus
could save her from falling into hell after death. When the Bible study
came to Matthew 17: 20 where Jesus said to His disciples, If ye have
faithnothing shall be impossible unto you, the verse touched her heart.
On August 15, 2002, she made her final decision and put all her faith in
Jesus Christ. She just believed Him and from that moment she
was saved.

The Old Rugged CrossOn a hill far away, stood an old rugged CrossThe emblem of suffering and shame
And I love that old Cross where the dearest and best
For a world of lost sinners was slain.
Oh, that old rugged Cross, so despised by the world,Has a wondrous attraction for me;
For the dear Lamb of God left His glory above
To bear it to dark Calvary.
Hymn written by George Bennard, 1913
After the Yale Wagon Road
(now, Old Yale Road) opened in
the late 19th century, farming,
logging and fishing became the
primary industries of new set-
tlers. Around 1917, a resident of
the area, Mr. Tom Fleetwood, joined the 47th Battalion of the Cana-
dian Expeditional Forces and was sent to France to fight in World War
I, where he gave his life in one of the battles. Shortly thereafter, his
sister applied to the provincial government for a charter to name her
community after her brother. A life size bronze of Thomas Fleetwood is
located at the Fleetwood Community Centre.

Iwas born in Fiji in 1964 and immigrated to theVancouver area with my parents when I was 18months old. I was raised in the Hindu faith. In 1973,
some men came around our neighborhood, inviting youth to
their Sunday School. After a few visits, my dad allowed me to go.My parents would take me to the Hindu home temples on special occa-
sions but I still attended Sunday School. There I learned more about the
God of the Bible and His Son, Jesus Christ and why He was so important.
I learned a Bible verse in Sunday School, John 3:16; For God so loved the
world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in
Him, should not perish but have everlasting life. When I was about 11,
there was a death in the family and I saw how uncertain people around
me were about what the future held. But this verse spoke of knowing for
sure where I could be after I died.
I thought Christianity was a white persons religion, but I quickly
learned that Christ gave His life for the whole world regardless of skin
color. I was invited to a Sunday evening gospel service and heard from
the Bible about the life and death of Jesus Christ, why He died on the
cross and our problem called sin. I learned that everyone has this same
problem. Romans 3:23 was quoted, For all have sinned and come short ofthe glory of God. God was speaking to me and I felt accountable to Him.
I really wanted to know that I would be in heaven when I died.
On November 11, 1980 a Christian friend asked me Dan, are you
saved? No one had asked that before. I knew he meant have I received
Jesus Christ as my Savior? I couldnt answer Him. If I said yes, I would
be lying to God and him. Later, alone in my bedroom, my mind racing
with many thoughts, I got on my knees and started talking with God. I
was sorry for rejecting His Son this long. I felt I had slapped God in theface when He offered me the gift of His Son. I said Thank you for your
Son who gave His life on the cross for my sin. Right then, I had a peace
inside and I knew I was finally right with God.

Who We Are and
What We Believe
THE FLEETWOOD ASSEMBLY is a non-denominational
group of Christians who accept the Bible as their
guide in all matters of faith, doctrine and practice.
(2 Timothy 3:16)
We observe the ordinances left by the Lord Jesus for His people,
namely: Baptism by immersion of true believers in Christ (Acts
18:8) and the weekly observance of The Lords Supper. (Luke 22:19,
Acts 2:42)
We believe that:
GOD eternally exists in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
(2 Corinthians 13:14)
JESUS CHRIST is the only begotten and eternal Son of God. He gave
His life on the cross for sinners (the ungodly). He rose from the dead
and ascended into heaven where He now serves as the believers
High Priest and Advocate. (John 1:1; Matthew 1:18-23)
THE BIBLE is the Word of God, inspired revealing Gods mind to us
(2 Timothy 3:15-16)
This booklet has been put in your home because we want you to hear
the Gospel, the good news, of Jesus Christ. Gods salvation gives us
peace for this life and wonderful security for the future including a
home with Him in heaven for all who simply trust in Jesus Christ and
His finished work on the cross.

Leus introduce ourselves. In 1966, a group of Christian believers
wanted to make the Gospel known in this
community. A building near 104 Ave. & 156
St. was rented and a good number of adults
and children attended this Gospel outreachfor about two years. Then a one acre parcel
of land was purchased at 8725 - 158 Street
and a building was constructed, serving the
congregation here for over 40 years.
We invite you to come visit us at the Fleet-
wood Gospel Hall. Youth activities include
Sunday school and Monday evening Kidz
Bible Klub. For adults, we offer a Gospel ser-
vice each Sunday evening. During the one
hour service, two speakers will teach from
Gods word about His love in providing sal-
vation through His Son, Jesus Christ. There
will be no collection taken and you will not
be asked to join. We would be so pleased to
see you. A good time to start would be the
Special Meetings mentioned on the cover.
