The carrier to interference ratios for co- and adjacent

channels are specified as :

C/I = 9dB minimum (co-channel)

C/I = -9dB minimum (adjacent channel)

The definition for co-channel interference in GSM system is

that a cell on the same channel can cause interference, if 

the serving cells signal level is only 9dB higher than the

interfering signal. For adjacent channels, interference can

be caused if the neighbouring cells signal level is 9dB

higher than the serving cell. Due to fading an additional 12

dB margin has been added to support good quality call:-
