How to render Ambient Occlusion in Maya 2011

First, go to Rendering Editors> Hypershade.

Click create “Surface Shader”

Then, under mental ray, click on “textures”, then create “mib_ambientocclusion”.

Select the “mib_occlusion” node and hold your middle mouse, then drag towards “surface shader”. A window appears, select “Other”

You will then go to the connection editor window.Highlight “Out Color and Out Value”

To apply your texture, select all your scene objects.Donʼt close hypershade window, just put it to the side.

Right Click the “Surface Shader” node, then a marquee window appears. Select “Assign material to Selection.”

Now go to your render settings.

Set it to:

Render Using: Mental rayUnder Quality | Quality Presets: Preview Final Gather.

And click the “clapper icon” to render your ambient occlusion.Remember each module we will do requires you a AO Render (ambient occlusion render). Save it Lastname_Firstname-yourexercise.jpg
