How my Family Came to Michigan

My great grand parents Walter and Klara Vogelsberg came to the United States from Arnstadt, Germany.

In Germany my great, great grandfather Otto Vogelsberg owned a butcher shop.

My great grandfather Walter was a student to also become a butcher.

This is where my great grandmother Klara Zeyss lived growing up.

My great grandparents Walter and Klara were married August 2, 1926.

Shortly after they were married they came to the U.S. by ship on the S.S. Colombus on December 2, 1926. They were sponsored by family

members who were already in the U.S. , they came looking for a better life.

This is a postcard of the ship.

They settled in Lindenhurst, New York on Long Island.

They had two boys, Paul and Walter my grandfather.

My grandparents Walter and Darien Vogelsberg had three children Karl, Krista and Kim my mother. They lived in Lindenhurst, New York too.

My parents John and Kim Chalifoux moved to Michigan in 1992. They have three children, Eleanor, Caroline and JR.
