- 1. By Harry Denn How effective is the combination of your main
product and ancillary texts?
- 2. How The Products Intergrate Throughout the media course, I
have completed two ancillary tasks, and the final music video. The
ancillary tasks consisted of a poster and digipak, promoting the
album that our band will release at a future date. The three
products integrate as they all promote the band by showing pictures
of the members of the band. They also all use the same font, which
maintains continuity for the band, and creates them a recognisable
feature, by which the audience can instantly recognise the that the
product belongs to the band. As a result, this creates a successful
marketing campaign for the band, and will allow them to become a
success in the future. As for the album, I think that the ancillary
tasks marketed it in a successful way, as they really showed what
the band is about through the use of colour, and images selected
from the band photo shoot. Meanwhile the music video, shows what
the stars are like in action, giving them a chance to show there
personalities, which promotes the album in a
- 3. How The Products Link Together To make the products seem as
one, we used similar costume, typography, visuals and colour
correction, to try an make the products seem as one. For example,
in the poster and ancillary tasks, the pictures show the band
wearing the same clothes, and in the music video, they are wearing
similar clothes once again. This gives the impression that the band
members are all linked together, even at different times, making it
seem like they took all the pictures and videos in one day, instead
of a couple of months. The typography has been kept the same also,
by this I mean that the same font has been used for the digipak,
the beginning of the music video, and the poster. This makes all
the products seem as one as they all have a unique feature which
brings them together. Furthermore the digipak and poster have very
similar visuals. The visuals are of the group posing for photos
being taken in a photo shoot, which were then used in the poster
and digipak. Meanwhile the music video, shows the band once again,
in a similar location.
- 4. Ian Haughton Advice I also gained advice from Ian Haughton
of Handsome Design, from a Skype call we made. He helped inform me
on my products, by suggesting the types of typography to use, and
said that its about 'what people say when they leave the room'.
This quote was of significance to me as it made me stop and think
about what I thought people would say when they saw my ancillary
tasks, and i then made alterations accordingly. He also suggested
that typography is essentially 'your handwriting' and some texts
will look 'silly' if you picked the wrong one.
- 5. The Magazine The magazine I have selected to have my digipak
advert in reinforces the overall look and feel of the products, as
it represents music in the same genre as the song that is featured
in our music video. This means that the adverts can look more
appealing and stand out from its rivals if the advert has been made
successfully. Furthermore the magazine is aimed at our target
audience of 16-24 year olds, as the text is very large and crazy,
which will appeal to our target audience.
- 6. How I will Reach My Target Audience My target audience will
be present on almost all forms of media, as it is a young audience,
so are therefore up to date with technology and the internet, along
with social media. Therefore this gives me an ideal opportunity to
appeal to multiple multiple sections of my target audience as it is
relatively easy to post my poster online on social media accounts
such as Facebook, Youtube and Twitter. This gives me multiple ways
of trying to reach my fragmented audience, as they are bounded to
see it on one of those very popular websites, thereby promoting my
band is very likely, as they are sure to see the poster. Other
forms of media that my target audience will present is in
newspapers. Therefore I would place the poster in the most common
newspaper for my target audience, in order to gain more popularity
for my band, by getting more people to see the adverts
- 7. Photography Workshop I also took part in a a photography
workshop, so that I could learn about how I should use images and
lighting in order to create, seemless images between all of my
products. I did this by taking pictures using a white background of
our band, creating lots of different poses, creating many different
representations of the band. From this I chose the appropriate
images for my ancillary tasks, and it made them look as one. I also
learnt how to use lighting in the images, and the effect they had
on the representations being portrayed. As a result of the
workshop, I ended up coming away with very useful images that i
used in my ancillary tasks, and a better understanding on how
lighting and camerawork can affect the way an audience perceives a
image, and the messages being sent from the image.
