CHA is pleased to partner again this year with the Connecticut Department of Public Health to present a program on improving asthma health outcomes through attention to housing quality. Megan Sandel, MD, MPH, an Associate Professor of Pediatrics at the Boston University School of Medicine and a nationally recognized expert on housing and child health, will provide the keynote presentation. The former Director of Pediatric Healthcare for the Homeless at Boston Medical Center and a Co-Principal Investigator with Children’s HealthWatch, Dr. Sandel will discuss the relationship between housing and health, and the importance of healthcare and community partnerships to address inadequate housing.
Following Dr. Sandel’s presentation there will be a plenary session on initiatives that support healthy housing and asthma, including presentations by representatives from the Connecticut Green Bank’s Connecticut Green and Healthy Homes Project, the Connecticut Children’s Healthy Homes Program, and Sustainable CT. The program will close with a panel presentation on policies and systems that support asthma care including commentary on legal issues, tobacco control, and activities that support fair housing opportunity.
