• Horror is a genre based on fear and startling.• They are designed to frighten the audience

with some characters and scenarios exaggerated for the fearful effect.

• These films usually have a tragic or surprising ending, again adding to fear of the audience.

Typical Horror Characters

• The main character/s of the film are usually an innocent person or group of people.

• These are then contrasted with a character often a zombie, monster, cannibal or serial killer for example.

Typical Horror Settings

• Most horrors are usually set in small towns and forests however it depends on the situation of the film.

Iconography/Props

• Blood• Weapons• Full Moon

History

• Horror films have been around since the 1890’s.

• Many older popular films include Frankenstein and The Hills Have Eyes and Hitchcock's Psycho.

• Nowadays, horror has become a popular genre, However most horrors are rated over 18 due to the graphic scenes seen within.
