Homogeneous distribution of concrete fed from the side
Side Feeder ISF 850
Recipe for success when paving concrete on a steel reinforcement
The strength requirements placed
on concrete pavements exposed
to extremely high loads can only
be met by inserting a steel re
inforcement. Reinforcements con
sist of steel mats or dowel bars laid
out ahead of the slipform paver.
In such cases, concrete delivery
is possible from the side only. For
precisely this special application,
Wirtgen has developed the
ISF 850 side feeder.
The ISF 850 travels over the steel
reinforcement ahead of the slip
form paver while being charged
with concrete from the side via
trucks or semitrailers. The ISF 850
then spreads the concrete evenly
across the entire working width.

steel reinforcement.
The Wirtgen ISF 850 side feeder enables …
Depending on job site conditions,
the ISF 850 can be fed with con
crete from the right or left machine
side.
The machine frame and spreading
auger are of modular design and
intended for paving moulds ranging
from 4.75 m to 9.50 m in width.
Operation of the ISF 850 is quite
easy the triedandtested operat
ing concept is identical to that of the
large Wirtgen slipform pavers.
Four separately hydraulically driven,
steerable track units ensure good
manoeuvrability and traction.
Reliable delivery of concrete
Even distribution of large amounts of concrete fed from the side
As trucks or semitrailers keep
discharging concrete into the large
receiving hopper of the convey
or unit, the conveyor transports
the material to the centre of the
concrete slab to be paved. The
ISF 850 side feeder then spreads
the freshly delivered concrete by
means of the integrated spreading
auger and, without compacting
it, places it at a smaller width but
larger thickness than the slipform
paver following behind.
The slipform paver finally places
the concrete at the specified width
and layer thickness together with
the previously laid steel reinforce
ment.
Tried-and-tested machine technology
The conveyor unit is distinctive for its conveying capacity of up
to 200 m³ per hour.
The spreading auger can be relied on to distribute the concrete across the specified paving width.

In order to enable trucks or
semitrailers to drive right up close
to the ISF 850 in restricted space
conditions, the conveyor unit can be
retracted and extended at the mere
push of a button.
Optimum concrete supply is en
sured by the movable conveyor unit
and variably adjustable conveyor
speed.
The hydraulically telescoping main
frame can be widened by means
of modular extension elements to
allow working widths ranging from
4.75 m to 9.50 m.
The spreading auger and concrete
scraper can also be widened in line
with the working width of the ma
chine frame by means of modular
extension elements.
Modular design
Ease of operation comes as a standard feature
The conveyor unit can be moved and the conveyor speed and direction adjusted via the separate control console.
The walk-through operator’s platform permits
a direct view of the entire work process.
No problem at all thanks to the
standardized operating concept:
handling of the ISF 850 side feeder
is easy for those familiar with
operating the large Wirtgen
slipform pavers.
Labelled in a languageneutral
manner, the clearly arranged but
tons and switches on the control
panel are selfexplanatory and
enable intuitive handling. In addi
tion to that, the conveyor unit can
be operated via a separate control
console. The walkthrough oper
ator’s platform can be accessed
from both sides and offers an
optimal view of the entire spread
ing process. Taken together, these
benefits even allow oneman
operation of the ISF 850.
One-man operation is an option

Operating principle of a paving train with ISF 850
The ISF 850 side feeder is gen
erally used in combination with a
slipform paver and texture curing
machine.
The ISF 850 accepts the concrete
from a truck and spreads the ma
terial evenly across the previously
laid steel reinforcement.
The slipform paver following
behind places the concrete at the
specifi ed width, compacting and
smoothing it at the same time.
In a fi nal step, the texture curing
machine creates a defi ned sur
face texture and sprays a curing
compound on the freshly paved
concrete surface.
