Reading Writing Read for at least 10 minutes every day. You could find an appropriate
magazine, newspaper, website, game instructions or a favourite book from
home. Remember you could read to a sibling or have family reading time.
Choose some of the activities to complete about your book:
Write a blurb
Compare two characters from the story. How are they the same?
How are the different?
Make a fact file of all the things that you have learnt from your
book.
Can you find 5 adjectives in your book?
Can you find an adverb?
Find a word that you don’t know the meaning of. Can you use a
dictionary or go online (with the permission and supervision of a
grown up) to find out the meaning?
Create a poster to convince people to buy this book/ magazine/
newspaper or fact file. Remember to use persuasive language and
make the poster bright and catchy.
Complete the reading comprehension tasks ‘The Ant and the Grasshopper’
Caterpillar Shoes
Watch the short animation ‘Caterpillar Shoes’ at:
https://www.literacyshed.com/caterpillar-shoes.html and complete
the task ‘Point of View’ which is found below this grid. If you do not
have a printer, you can write your ideas straight into your workbook.
You will need to pretend you are the beetle and flea and write how
you feel about being given some lovely new shoes.
For the second task, choose whether you would like to be the beetle
or flea and write a thank-you letter to the caterpillar. You should
thank the caterpillar for the shoes that he has given you and say how
you are looking after them and when you have been wearing them.
You may like to use some ideas from your task ‘Point of View’. You
can write straight into your workbook and perhaps decorate around
your writing with some minibeast illustrations. You could make up a
fun address for your character.
and ‘All About Elephants’. If you don’t have a printer, you can answer the
questions straight into your workbook. You can work with an adult to
answer the questions. If you are finding an answer tricky, they may help
you with your reading or show you what section or paragraph or section to
look at to find the answer. You only need to complete one of the question
sheets. The final sheets are the hardest if you would like a challenge.
As an additional activity, you could complete the wordsearch found
below.
Look at the picture below ‘Girl and Dragon’. Think about the
following:
Where are the girl and the dragon?
What can they see from this place?
What are they looking at?
Why are they here?
Are they friends?
Does the girl own the dragon as a pet or does the dragon own the
girl as its pet?
What species of dragon do you think it is? Is it friendly?
Does anyone else know that they’re up here? What might other
people say about their friendship?
Now write about a day in the life of the girl and the dragon. What
adventure could they have? Give your story a title and you could
draw your own illustrations.
Spellings SPAG Choose 10 words from the KS1 common exception words to try to learn
this week. Practise the same 10 words every day for the week. You may

some wrong, add them to next week’s list and have another go.
(Note: The KS1 Common Exception words can be found in your school
planner.)
