Monday – Maths Task 1 https://whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/year-6/ Please go to Week 2, Lesson 3

N.B. If you do not have a protractor at home, you can print one from the pages at the back of the learning pack or collect one from the Year 5/6 tray outside of school.

Starter (Arithmetic – Adding fractions)

Fluency

1. What is an acute angle? (Miss J top tip – an acute angle is a cute (small) angle)

2. What is an obtuse angle?

3. What is a reflex angle?

4. Sort the angles below into four categories: acute angle; right-angle; obtuse angle; reflex angle.

12 | P a g e

5. What is the size of each angle? Why? (Tip - Think carefully about the inner/outer scale).

6. Estimate and then measure these angles.

13 | P a g e

Problem Solving

1. If you know that the angles on a straight line are equal to180°, calculate the size of each angle.

2. Which angle belongs to which person?

3. Miss Jarvis, Miss Rimmer and Mrs Connolly share a piece of custard tart. They split it into three pieces (a, b and c). Miss Jarvis has the biggest piece and Mrs Connolly has the smallest piece. Which piece of tart will they each receive? Calculate the angle of each piece (180° in total).

Tuesday – Reading Task 2 – Summarising

L.P. To summarise the main ideas of a text. 1) Create a poster or mind map to summarise the main pieces of

information from the text.

17 | P a g e

2. Match each angle to its picture and number of right angles.

3. Complete the table.

4. Here is a compass.

a) If you are standing facing west and turn 180° clockwise, which direction will you be facing?

b) If you are standing facing south and turn 270° clockwise, which direction will you be facing?

c) If you are facing west and turn a quarter anti-clockwise, which direction will you be facing?

18 | P a g e

Problem Solving

1) Which is the odd one out? Why?

2) The clock starts at 11:00am. How many degrees has the minute hand moved to get to 11:45am?

3) Miss Jarvis and Miss Rimmer are asked how many degrees there are between East and South.

Miss Jarvis says,

“There are 90° between East and South.”

Miss Rimmer says,

“There are 270° between East and South.”

Who do you agree with? Why?

Explain your answer.

Fluency

1) Record and complete the statements.

2) Calculate the unknown angles. Remember, that adjacent angles on a straight line are equal to 180°.

c) d)

23 | P a g e

3) Calculate the unknown angles. Remember, that the angles around a point are equal to 360°.

Problem Solving

1) Use the digit cards to fill in the missing angles.

2) There are five equal angles around a point. What is the size of each angle?

3) Use Miss Jarvis’ hints to work out the angles.

• Three angles make up a straight line. • Angle A is half of angle B. • Angle C is five more than 130° • All the angles are multiples of 5.

Wednesday – Starter

Wednesday – Fluency

1) a + b = 180° b + = 180° 180° - a = b 180° - b = a

2) a) angle e = 122° 180 – 58 b) angle g = 39° 180 – 141 c) angle y = 118° 180 – 62 d) angle z = 110° 43 + 27 = 70 180 – 70

3) a) angle c = 150° 100 + 110 = 210 360 – 210 b) angle x = 135° 101 + 90 + 64 = 255 360 – 255 c) angle a = 118 118 + 62 + 62 = 242 360 – 242 d) angle z = 160° 90 + 90 + 20 = 200 360 – 200

53 | P a g e

Thursday - Starter See multiplication square above to check these.

Thursday – Fluency 1)

2)

a) angle a = 56° angle b = 124°

b) angle a = 94° angle b = 86°

c) angle a = 54°, angle b = 74°, angle c = 52°

d) angle d = 16° because 65 + d need to equal the opposite angle of 81°.

3) The size of the other vertically opposite angles are 88 because:

92 + 92 = 184

360 – 184 = 176

176 divided by 2 = 88
