Ian Watkins Principal’s Report
It’s good to be back
I would like to thank Mrs Carr, Mr Hunter and Mrs Patti for looking after the school so well whilst I was on secondment with North Eastern Region. There have been some significant changes to the school buildings. I look forward to catching up with everyone. Farewell Year 12s
I would like to wish all of our Year 12 students all the very best luck for the upcoming examinations. The school community was able to show their appreciation for our senior students at the farewell assembly today. Certainly, we will miss them. Year 12 graduation night is to be held this Friday and I know everyone is looking forward to a great night.
Fiji tour
I would like to welcome back our students who participated in our tour to Fiji. It was great to hear of all of the wonderful things that they have achieved.
School Captains 2018
The school captains for 2018 have been selected by ballot last week. I would like to thank all of the 20+ applicants and congratulate them for their interest and enthusiasm to represent students.
The school captains are: Ashley Scheltinga and Callum Burnie Vice captains: Soo Lim and Shaulukhun Vishnuraj and International captains: Katrina Wong and Minyi Yan.
Student Voice
No doubt, members of council have seen the Minister for Education announcement on changes to student participation in school councils. We have considered this announcement and have a number of possible ways we could enact it, which we would like to discuss with council. More news to follow….
Master planning
Stage One continues to be on track. The old administration and English LOTE areas are currently being stripped ready for refurbishment.
We anticipate that the old H- block will be ready for use by the start of 2018.
Students and staff are now taking full advantage of the new G-block. We have had a very positive response to the clean and versatile classroom arrangement.
Tenders are still being worked on for our exciting Stage Two. This project will see the refurbishment of Science and Art Technology.
VEX Robotics
I would like to congratulate all of our teams that participated in the recent VEX Robotics Competition. In a tightly held contest one of our teams managed second place. Well done!

Heather Carr Assistant Principal’s Report
Saturday 7th October dawned and Mr O’Brien and myself along with seven students boarded the plane to Nadi for the 4½ hour flight. That night we settled in the Mecure Hotel Nadi and went shopping for snacks to supplement our food intake when on Naviti Island (no shops).
After a 3 hour boat trip on the Yasawa Flyer through many islands, we arrived at Botaria Resort Nativi and settled into our bures and met the Vinaka Fiji team .
The students were divided into two groups with one constructing a concrete base and the tank and the
Our work with the marine biologist Gabriel Waqaiquma will be presented by him and the President of Fiji in November at the United Nations Climate Change Conference in Bonn, Germany.
After a very memorable hand over ceremony, and the presentation of children clothing and sporting equipment to the village, we said a fond farewell to our island home for our return to Melbourne.
other group participating in the 1:1 reading program at Naviti District School.
On the Wednesday, the winds were too strong to go to the village and school by boat so the group hiked over the island to the Village. Prior to our arrival, the marine biologist had been discussing with the chief of the village surveying and creating a protected marine reef area. We had the privilege of assisting the Chief to identify that area. After which we collected dead coral from the reef, and worked with the Marine biologist to make fish houses to put back into the reef to bring protection and fish back to that reef area.
