Spanish 1 & 2 Classes Course Description and Expectations

Course Description:By the end of Spanish Classes, students should be able, at a novice low level, to socialize, acquire and provide some information in Spanish.

Grammar topics that students will cover include:

Gender NumbersNouns AdjectivesArticlesPronounsAffirmative & negative phrases CommandsPresent and past tenses Regular and Irregular verbs

Textbooks:Realidades 1 or 2 Textbooks , Boyles, Contreras, González Pino, Met, Sayers and Wargin. Pearson Prentice Hall , 2005.

Course Materials:A. Students will bring to class DAILY: Textbook and workbook, pens (blue/black only),

pencils, a red pen, a highlighter and Spanish class binder and notebook.

Binder: Students will bring a binder to class DAILY and setup as follows:

•Title Page (with information about class)•Assignment Sheet •Course Description and Expectations Sheet• Divided Sections (7 dividers are required and labeled in Spanish) • Keep all materials under the corresponding divider and order by date

Notes - All class notes, including handouts.Exercises - Work done in class, including worksheets from workbooks)Homework - All homework, excluding major grade projects)Quizzes/Tests - Quizzes, tests and major gradesVocabulary - Vocabulary lists titled with chapter number and section)Paper – Lined loose leaf paper that is ready to be used).

Some recommendations in order for the student get the most out of this class. They can do this during their spare time to practice, this is not mandatory:

*Watch Spanish TV, soap operas are very entertaining: Channel 45, 48, 49 and others

* Speak in Spanish as much as possible

•Listen to Spanish radio: 102.9, 106.5, 107.9, 101.9 or others

* Spanish practice websites: www.studyspanish.com and others
