HELP!!!I have to speak in front of my friends

Why do we have to do

this?

The assessmentYou will have to

write, edit and present a 3-6 (solo)

OR 5-7 (pairs) minute prepared

speechCHOICE

- Persuasive (The arguments we’ve

been talking about)OR

- How-to (Demonstration)

But I don’t know what to do!!!!

Don’t worry. We have lots of time to help you write and present the best speech you have ever done!

The Hamburger Structure

The introductionThe top of the hamburger

bun

The first 30 seconds are probably the most important. You must grab the attention of the audience and engage their interest in what you have to say in your speech.

BUT HOW CAN I DO THIS?

There are many ways. What about the following?

• Raise a thought-provoking question

• Make an interesting statement

• Recite a relevant quotation

• Recite a relevant joke

• Time to brainstorm!• Make a list of as many things

you can think of that you may want to present your speech on.

The bodyAll the fillings in the

middleThis is the largest part of the speech

Put things in a logical order so that it is easier to follow

Remember to use descriptive language

About 3-5 discussion points

Elaborate on each discussion point and then link them to each other to show continuity

The base of the burger

•Summarize the main ideas in the speech, rounding off the discussion

•Let the audience know you are going to finish without saying it

•Finish with a bang! Make the audience stand up and cheer before you can even say “Thank you.”

• Students use a bubble map to brainstorm ideas to finish their speeches

• Students work on their own conclusions

• Students do “buddy reading”

Lesson 5Delivering a

speechLO: WALT deliver a speech with confidence

SC: We will be able to use stance, eye contact and voice to deliver a “WOW” speech

What YOU SAY is important ( 7% of your speech and the influence on the audience)

55% of the success of the speech is HOW YOU LOOK WHEN YOU SAY THAT

AND

38% of the success of the speech is HOW YOU SAY THE SPEECH
