I am so honored to be your Lay Director. I took over re-sponsibility this month in June. My name is Beth Doran. I lived Cursillo #602 –Diocese of Peoria, Illinois in 1999. I grouped at the table of St. Elizabeth and I worship at St Joseph Catholic Church in Lebanon, Indiana. At the time of my Cursillo in 1999, I was in a great transi-tion in my life. I was upgrad-ing my life, leaving the past behind, and moving back home to Illinois to be closer to family. I had been searching for a long time – I knew Christ or so I thought but Cursillo for me stabilized my life. I found my foundation once again, only in a better, richer, deeper, fuller way. Christ was so good to me. He put me in an awesome group of ladies and we grew together, shared life together, did day trips together. At-tended Ultreyas together, went to weddings, funerals, and so on. We shared life together. And still today they are sup-porting me with their prayers. While in Illinois, I served on their Secretariat as Palanca Chairperson for four years. I enjoyed it very much. I am married to Dave Doran. We have two children, three Granddaughters, and one Great-Grandson. In the past, we were transferred to Florida. And there wasn’t any Cursillo
in our area. Onward in our journey, we transferred to Mississippi. Dave made his Cursillo there but it was hard to get involved as there were no local friend-ship groups and Ultreyas were two hours away. Upon transfer to Indiana we were fortunate to find St Joseph Parish with an active friendship group, Ultreyas, and vibrant Cursillo Community to welcome us in. We felt right at home. We were so grateful and felt blessed to have a new Cursillo home. Cursillo has meant a lot to me especially because of my Illinois experi-ence and Dave had yet to ex-perience the richness and full-ness of Cursillo with its impor-tance in our lives & spiritual faith growth journey. Here we are. This is our unique authentic Christian life journey and we are now glad and thankful to be sharing it with all of you – our Cursillo family community. We are grateful to be jour-neying with all of you to effec-tively serve, love and care for one another as we follow Christ’s example to spread the good news to all the earth as we affect and infect our envi-ronments as we live out our daily lives. Let your light so shine be-fore men that they may see the
goodness of God in our daily lives. De Colores – onward to-gether in Joy as we pray, study, act, and realize the special God moments & treasures God has for all of us. Please continue to offer prayers and sacrifices for the National, Regional & Dioce-sian Cursillo movement that we may effectively serve those God chooses to send to us. Remember to identify potential candidates and pray for them as we – Make a Friend, Be a Friend, Bring that friend to Christ. Christ is counting on us….. and we on Him. Beth Doran Lay Director CICC

Finally summer is here. For
many a time of rest, relaxation
and family get-togethers. After
the winter we had, it is a wel-
come relief and cause for cele-
bration.
Whether you are a lake person, a
nature person or just plain old
patio person – it is a beautiful
time. As you ponder a beautiful
world and see all that God has
made and marvel at its beauty,
don’t forget to say thank you,
what a beautiful world!
While nature is in full bloom,
what about you? Nature has no
choice but simply to reflect the
beauty of God. That is its sole
purpose – reflecting the beauty of
our Awesome God.
You and I also share in the Crea-
tion story. However, we have a
free will and every day we ask,
“Have we, by our lives reflected
God’s beauty or have we not?”
Many of us are not perfect. Usu-
ally, with a thorough examination
of our conscious, we can hon-
estly say not always and we
need to say “I’m sorry, I can do
better.” Or even “Help me, I can’t
do this on my own.”
God as he does in nature makes
beautiful things. He makes
beautiful people who like all of
nature are capable of beautiful
blooms and at times unsightly
weeds.
I hope you all have a wonderful,
fun-filled summer and bloom with
nature and be that beautiful per-
son God has made. And don’t
forget to see the beauty in all
God’s gifts and be grateful.

The two Cursillo Weekends, presented in Spanish, held in May, at the SonRise Retreat Center, were very successful, thanks be to God! The Men’s Weekend served 24 candidates and the Women’s served 30 candidates. We are very pleased to have had the opportunity to serve so many in our initial ef-fort. These new Cursillistas are on fire for the Lord and for their Fourth Day! This success has had a powerful effect on the Core Team, who has spent so much time and energy in preparation
over the last two years.
The next Spanish weekends will be presented as follows: Men’s – November 6-9, 2014 and the Women’s - November 13-16, 2014. The Rector, Rectora and their assistants have been named and are ready to serve the new candidates God will send to us. Would you please consult and mark your calendars with these dates. We would love to have you participate, first with
Prayer and Palanca, and then next fall, by offering to serve meals for each weekend and finally, by attending the clos-ings. The CICC community needs to show our support of these efforts to expand the im-pact of Cursillo in Central Indi-ana. Please let us know if you
are interested in serving.

This is an exciting and historic time for the Cursillo movement in Central Indiana as we have be-gun to offer opportunities for our Spanish-speaking brothers and sisters to experience this method and way of Christian life. For the English-speaking community, I would like to invite you to some observations about this, particu-larly from my experience as a
pastor in a multicultural parish.
First, there can be an unease with doing things separately by language and culture, but the reality is that there are many faithful Catholics living here in Indiana who cannot participate in Cursillo except in Spanish. In fact, I had four women attend the Women’s Spanish Cursillo #1
who are originally from Guate-mala and are now grouping in their first language of Chuj’, a Mayan dialect that they speak much better than even Spanish! The English-speaking Cursillo community should be proud that the 50 years of the movement here locally has spawned an even greater outreach to a broader part of our Catholic faith-ful, which now will double the number of Cursillistas each year
from before.
Second, as Cursillistas, we still need to strive to live out our unity in Christ as much as possi-ble. One of the ways I see this happening is for people to come to the closing at Spanish week-ends. There are parts of the clos-
ing that are repeated in English, and I have noticed lots of bilin-gual people that can interpret for you if you don’t understand what is being said. Also, I’ve seen lots of palanca in English already on these weekends, which can be easily translated. Remember anyway that palanca is our sacri-ficial offering to lift up each other
to God, not the words on a note.
While different languages can be a barrier, it is not insurmount-able, especially when our pres-ence and love of each other doesn’t need words. Let us trust the Holy Spirit that his work will be to the benefit of all the church as our movement expands here
in Indiana.
Now that our first two weekends in Espanol have been completed, we will concentrate on building an effective Secretariat to manage the business side of this local Cursillo Movement and to prepare for the November Week-ends. Also, we have four Ultreyas, per month (Frankfort, IN, Marion, IN, Anderson, IN and Indianapolis, IN), one each week, and will con-tinue to support Friendship Group Reunion and sponsor a bi-monthly School of Leaders at St. Joan of Arc in Kokomo, IN. As you can see,
there is still a great deal of work to do.
The Holy Spirit has truly blessed us, providing leadership, candidates and resources, and we are very THANKFUL!. We ask that you please continue to support our initiatives with prayer, participation, offering public support, and by sharing this information with your friends and fellow Cursillistas. May God continually bless you, our Church and our efforts to serve all of
His Children in Central Indiana!

Have you ever looked at the
tag on a shirt to see what it was
made of? Did you ever see a tag
with "Some Leadership Skills

do you think most people would
do when they read that on the
tag? They would place it right
back down, because they did not
believe that they had what it
takes to be a leader.

As a Parish Coordinator, you
are the Communications HUB of
the Cursillo family. You are the

example, when you have a big
event in your family such as a

get the information to your family

is that you designate someone to
be your Contact Person. The

Parish coordinators foster

As Eduardo Bonnin, our foun-der, put it so eloquently, “we are called to make the tenderness of God apparent.” The Lord has to be discovered in daily life & in the routine of domestic tasks. As our human roots grow toward heaven, we are trying to incorporate the present day com-munication media to share Christ’s outreaching hands to all as we grow deeper and closer to Christ, the Catholic Church & our friends . Thank you to all of you for helping us use the creativity of our world today to raise, grow, inform and spread Eduardo’s message which he has passed on to us to share with others.
The New Secretariat
With May & June arriving, it has brought about some changes to the Secretariat. This is the time of year that the Secretariat members who have served their terms go off & new Secretariat members arrive to take their places. This has occurred , so we sadly say Good-bye and Thank You so very much to Mark Schel-ler, Mary Kathleen Jacobs, Mark and Maureen Totleben, Molly Sanders & Tom Labarbera. School of Leaders By Ellen Sanders
Cursillo de Cursillo Coming Soon
Moving on...
Most of us began our Cursillo journey at the three day Cursillo weekend where we were envel-oped in the love of Jesus and introduced to the Cursillo move-ment. And as we stepped into our Fourth Day, we were encour-aged to join a group reunion so we could continue to grow in our faith and learn how to use the Cursillo method of Make a Friend, Be a Friend, and Lead a Friend to Christ. But to take the next step into Cursillo including sponsoring someone for a week-end, working on a weekend team or participating on a committee, we need to learn more about Cursillo movement so we can accurately represent it. The Holy
Spirit gave Eduardo Bonin this beautiful charism of Cursillo and the School of Leaders is meant to be the place where people who are active in Cursillo meet to study and discuss the Cursillo literature and consider how the changes in the Catholic Church
impact our Cursillo movement.
In Central Indiana we have a vibrant and growing Cursillo com-munity, so clearly we are doing a lot of things right and God contin-ues to bless us. But we have struggled to establish a School of Leaders that people want to at-tend. So perhaps we need to think beyond having a traditional 2-3 hour event each month and
be more creative. I believe we have a mini School of Leaders each time a team is in formation so could the School of Leaders committee help provide a curricu-lum for formation? Is there a way we could use technology to pro-vide continuing education about
Cursillo?
As the chair for the School of Leaders, I could really use your help to come up with ways to enable our community to learn more about Cursillo. If you have any ideas of how the School of Leaders could effectively share information about our movement, could you please email me at

It has been a whirlwind the last couple of weeks and I thank all the Curstil-listas that contributed to this summer issue. As the seasons changed so did the priories of my life and I found myself wrestling with cer-tain commitments. On May 8th I resigned as the Communications Director of CICC. Communica-

De Colores was the immediate thought that rushed into my mind when I saw these windows the Holy Name Cathedral in Chicago,
Illinois. Christian JOY when we hear the words De Colores. Joy is a fruit of the Holy Spirit in the life of a person or the Cursillo community. Reminding us that we are loved by God & can love others in return, because of our realization of God’s love for us. It is our expression of unity & hope in the community of faith. Cursillistas say “De Colores” to signify that they are in the state of grace.
De Colores meaning onward as we are blessed at the end of each Mass & exorted to go forth & spread the good news of Jesus Christ to others. Spreading the good news is our action requiring total mobili-zation of the head through study; of the knees through piety; and of the feet and hands through apos-tolic works. De Colores – onward in Joy.
Have you visited any awesome Churches? by Beth Doran
in songs, adoration and praise. The celebration ended with mu-sic, food and conversation, in-cluding toasts to the Body of Christ, Viva Christo Rey! Viva! Benefits of Eucharistic Adoration (from Corpus Christi Program) “The only time our Lord asked the Apostles for anything was the night He went into agony. Not for activity did He plead but for an Hour of companionship.” Archbishop Fulton Sheen “Perpetual Adoration extends its influence far beyond the individ-ual adorers, touching their homes and families and reaching out to the parish community and be-yond.” Pope Paul VI “Each time you approach the
Blessed Sacrament remember that Jesus has been waiting for you for twenty centuries for this personal visit from you.” St. Josemaria Escriva “Our Lord hears prayers every-where, but He has revealed to His servants that those who visit Him in the Eucharist will obtain a more abundant measure of grace.” St. Alphonsus Ligouri “A holy Hour in front of the Blessed Sacrament is worth more than a thousand years of human glory.” St. Padre Pio By being faithful to a Holy Hour of Adoration you can teach by example. “The young should be taught the value of Eucharistic Adoration.” St. John Paul II
Reflections on Corpus Christi by Chuck Bunnell
The Church just celebrated a major feast, Corpus Christi, the Body of Christ. We all know that the feast is the celebration of Jesus Body & Blood in the Holy Eucharist, but the body of Christ brings another image to my mind, the Mystical Body of Christ, of which we are all a part. Nowhere was this more evident to me than 40 hours closing Sunday night at St. Boniface. Imagine a 150+ year old church with no air-conditioning on a very hot and muggy night. Despite this the church is nearly full, 600-700 souls. Jesus is already exposed from the last 40 hours. The old pipe organ blares out the proces-sional and slowly a dozen altar boys come up the main aisle followed by three deacons and eight priests. For me there is a real sense of communion with the Mystical Body of Christ, young and not so young with different cultural, economic and education backgrounds but united in their devotion to our Lord Jesus Christ. With multi-part harmony the choir praises God with ancient songs and in-cense fills the air, uniting us to the Church past. As a further sign of unity and proclamation of who we are, Jesus is taken into the street and the faithful follow

Postcursillo by Tim Hays
Lafayette Cursillo Community by Von Keech
Postcursillo is a method that we use to continue our ongoing conversion to strengthen our relationship with Christ. Cursillo is so close to our hearts, while being so far away from the hearts of so many of our loved ones and friends that have no clue about our movement. My mother, a devout Catholic, who will soon be ninety, lives only fifteen miles from a cursillo community in Pittsburgh and has never heard of the cursillo move-ment. My mother and I have discussed the cursillo movement and she now brings to my atten-tion and saves articles pertaining to our movement. During a re-cent visit, I read an article pub-lished in the Pittsburgh Catholic,
titled: Cursillo: ‘Knowing how to be a Friend’, stating: “Movement fits perfectly with the new evan-gelization.” Bishop David Zubik wrote in his fourth Pastorial letter that the cursillo movement is right on target with the Church’s plans to evangelize. He invites all Catho-lics in the Pittsburgh area to “Be a friend. Be a friend of Jesus. Make friends for Jesus.” The article describes how the week-end helps Catholics to rediscover a loving God and the importance of the ultreya and friendship group. Father Tom Gavin said. “As St. John Paul II said, ‘Cursillistas are ambassadors for the world.’ We share God’s mes-sage through friendship, and
sharing how we live our faith.” It is very important to partici-pate in both the ultreya and friendship groups, since this is the process of sharing the mes-sage of God through our friends while strengthening our own lives and faith. We must continue our responsibility as stated by St. John Paul II, to evangelize all those individuals within our square meter. We probably all have friends that can benefit from cursillo, and like my mother, are they just need someone to en-courage them. Bring that friend to Christ while living your fourth day! May God bless you!
The Lafayette Cursillo Community held it's annual picnic on
June 22 2014, at the home of Jeff and Marlene Jarboe. There
were 60 Cursillista's and friends in attendance. Father Paul
Graff celebrated Mass, with the assistance of Deacon Mike
Gray, and music led by Sister Kathy Anne Lepore.
Mass was followed by a carry in dinner, games for the kids, and
lots of fellowship! It was a beautiful sunny day!

I was born in Michigan and moved to Indiana in 1989. We have two children- a daughter, Karen, and we had a son named Christopher. My wife, Joan, and I have been married for 40 years. I enjoy being a Eucharistic Minis-ter and Sacristan. I am a member of the SMG Holy Name Society, the SMG Pre-Cana Sponsor couple team, the Knights of Co-lumbus and the Parish Coordina-tor for Cursillo. I attended Cur-
sillo Team 80, sat at the table of St. Blaise and worship at St. Maria Goretti in Westfield Indiana I accepted the call from the Holy Spirit to be on the Secre-tariat because I wanted to help promote the Cursillo movement throughout Central Indiana. The Cursillo Community helps me continue my walk with Christ with their uplifting enthusiasm, sharing Christ’s teaching through Piety, Study and Evangelization. Partici-
pation in Closings, Group Reun-ions and Ultreyas helps me see how Christ is working miracles 24/7 in his Christian Community. I am comforted to know He is always there for us when we need Him or when we ask Him to help others. I pray that the Holy Spirit inspires me to fulfill my Secretariat duties so I may assist the Central Indiana Cursillo Com-munity to the best of my abilities. DECOLORES!

lives.
A few months ago, I was asked to discern whether I would be the Precursillo representative to the Secretariat. After short time of prayer, I agreed to accept this position. I would like to share with you some of what Precursillo is about and what our
plans are in the future.
Precursillo is the study of environments and finding influen-tial people in those environ-ments. Pre- Cursillo is also re-sponsible for preparation of can-didates for 3 Day Cursillo and living the Postcursillo. We are not focused only on new candidates, but the right candidates. As Cusillistas, we are asked to find sponsor new candidates for the weekend. Our responsibilities as sponsors do not and at the end of the three day weekend. We are to continue her to continue helping the Faith formation of the candidates we sponsor. Part of the function Precursillo is to train us to be good sponsors. Good sponsors are able to find the right candidates, find the leaders in our parishes and communities, that will help our Church grow into the image the Christ wants us to be. If we don't take Precur-sillo seriously, the three day weekend may go well for candi-dates, but the Postcursillo may be a struggle. As important as a
three day weekend is, without the Postcursillo, without Ulterya, without grouping, much of the value of the Cursillo movement is lost. This all starts with Precur-
sillo.
The Precursillo committee intends to help bring Cursillo to more parishes in our two dio-ceses. The Precursillo committee will come to various parishes and give short presentations on the Cursillo movement. Our hope and prayer is that these informa-tion sessions will help bring the right candidates to us. This infor-mation will be important for Cur-sillistas as well. We need to make sure that all Cursillistas know the responsibilities of a sponsor. Even you have spon-sored many candidates, these sessions can serve as a ref-eresher. You never know when you might pick up something
new.
We need a little help with this. We are currently looking for peo-ple to serve on the Precursillo committee. We are not asking you to go to every presentation at every parish. There are other roles to be filled on this commit-tee. If you think Precursillo is something you may be being called to do, please contact me. I am certain we can find a role for
you.
Mick Mirande and Precursillo
My name is Mick Mirande and I am the Precursillo representative to the Secretariat. I would like to tell you little bit about myself, how I became involved Cursillo, what it means to me, and what the Pre-
cursillo committee is doing.
I moved to the Indianapolis area about 10 years ago from central Illinois. My wife Molly and I have been married for 23 years and have four children between ages 12 and 18. We live in West-field and attend St. Maria Goretti
Parish.
Shortly after moving to West-field, Molly and I both went through Christ Renews his Parish. This was a very meaningful time for both of us, and about two and half years after this I discerned that I was ready for something else. A friend of mine spoke to me about Cursillo and I decided to go through the weekend. The week-end was one of the best of my life. This is where I really learned the three pillars of being a good Catholic Christian and how to live my life as a good Catholic. Molly went through Cursillo six months after I did. Cursillo has really helped to bring Christ to the center of our lives. We are both actively grouping, and find this to be a central part of our lives. The ac-countability would have to each other and to God from the moving process, has been essential in our

We are newbie's, a pair acting as one secretary for the secretariat - Chuck and Barb Bunnell. We have been married for three years. Chuck made his Cursillo #75 in 1996 and Barb made Cursillo #96 in 2012. We are, obviously, committed to Cursillo, in a small way before and a larger way now. We believe strongly in the influence of the Holy Spirit in our lives and have found the Holy Spirit’s influence is very powerful on Cursillo weekends due to prayers and sacrifices of Cursillistas worldwide. Our hope is for CICC to find a way (led by the Spirit) to keep the fire of the weekend alive through an increase in small group sharing.
The Secretaries - Not One, But Too!
Dollar$ and $ense by Marty Van Der Burgt, Treasurer
I would like to start by thank-ing all cursillistas for their gifts of time, talent, and treasure over this past fiscal year. As our year is ending, I am humbled by the outpouring of generosity within our community, and the love we share with each other. It is this generosity of spirit that intrigues others and is a catalyst to others joining our movement. Thank You! CICC was blessed with a great financial year for 2013-2014. Although we were below budget on weekend income as well as ultreya income by $3,300, we were $5,100 over budget in donations to CICC. We had twenty-three contributions, in-cluding a large anonymous con-tribution and a second collection
parish contribution, that allowed us to meet our expenses and not go into the red this year. A bless-ing indeed. Our new fiscal year, however, brings new challenges. It is our intent to keep team and candi-date fees the same. However, just like our personal expenses at home, the cost for our secre-tariat, supplies and food for the weekend continue to increase. Also our rent at the new location in Anderson is 20% higher than our previous home at St. Berna-dette. Therefore, CICC is in need of generous benefactors to help us meet our expenses for the new year. Currently we are ex-pecting to be about $4,000 short of meeting all projected ex-penses for 2014-2015. I would
like to encourage all cursillistas to consider a regular contribution to CICC, or at least a one-time gift of $50 in honor of our 50 year celebration of Cursillo in Central Indiana. Gifts can easily be made by credit card on our web-site, www.cursillo-cicc.org, or by check to CICC Treasurer, 3020 Dorothy Lane, Richmond, IN 47374. If you are a golfer, I en-courage to play in our golf fund raiser. If you own a business, I encourage you to support us with the purchase of advertising on our website or sponsoring our golf outing. Please help us reach out to bring more friends to Christ - pay it forward! May God bless you for your generosity.
