Why bother?

How many people are affected by disasters?

In 2008:321 disasters killed 235 816 people, affected 211 million others, and caused damage worth US$181 billion(Center for Research on Epidemiology of Disasters (CRED), a Belgium based organisation:

Competencies

• Analyse, evaluate and manage the dynamic factors of disasters on individual and society level, locally and globally

• Work theoretically and practically in all three main processes of Disaster Management

• Analyse and evaluate the physical/environmental, social/political/cultural, economic, legal/institutional/organisational, and health related/psychological aspects that influences the vulnerabilities and capacities of individuals and societies

• Work strategically and operationally with all three main processes of Disaster Management

• Collect, document, analyse, and communicate information
