PRECEEDING DISPLAY TECHNOLOGIES

•Simple CRT(Cathode Ray Tube)

•LCD(Liquid crystal diode)

•DLP(Digital Light Processing)

•LCoS (Liquid Crystal on Silicon)

•Holographic Images On Transparent screen.

•OLED - Organic Light Emitting Diode

INTRODUCTION•Display technology has reached a stage where images can be displayed in thin air without the aid of a screen

•Heliodisplay is a technology developed by Chad Dyner, CEO for IO2 Technologies

TECHNOLOGY•Fully interactive plug-and-play compatible (TV,DVD, PC…)•Hand or finger can select, navigate and manipulate

Connects to PC with standard VGA cable•TV/DVD connection with standard RGB video cable•Supports o JPEG o FLASH,AVI,MP4,MVI o QUICKTIME,WMI o Text

WORKING PRINCIPLE

•Heliodisplay can receive input from a computer, etc.,

•The system creates a dynamic, non-solid particle cloud by ejecting atomized present in the surrounding air

•The device works by creating a cloud of microscopic particles that makethe air image-friendly

DETAIL WORKING

TYPES OF HELIODISPLAYS

•SIMPLE PROJECTOR•INTERACTIVE PROJECTOR

HELIODISPLAY AS TOUCHSCREEN

A finger or some handheld object can act as a mouse and seemingly drag images in midair

ANGLE OF VIEWING

Viewing in direct sunlight is almost impossible. Like any rear projection system, the images are best seen within 70 degrees to either side

DEVELOPMENTS IN HELIODISPLAY

•MODEL M1•MODEL M2•MODEL M3 and M30•MODEL M50 and M100•MODEL L90•P-SERIES

SPECIFICATIONS

•1024 x 768 resolution, 16:9 or 4:3 aspect ratios.•2000:1 contrast ratio•Supports all formats•Projects any images that would be viewable on a computer screen or television•No specialized hardware or software•3D compatible

ADVANTAGES

•No screen to project images•Device is light weight and can be converted into a furniture•Nothing is added to air.•Heliodisplay does not create fog, so no electronic

devices in the room are affected•Heliodisplay, imagery can be seen up to 75 degrees off

aspect for a total viewing area of over 150 degrees•No special glasses required to see the display.

DISADVANTAGES

•Heliodisplay is very expensive•Viewing a Heliodisplay image in direct sunlight

is almost impossible•Screen is essentially air, so it can become distorted with too much air movement in the room•Waviness

APPLICATIONS

i) Advertising/promotionii) Video conferencingiii) Virtual surgery and pre-operative

planningiv) Military training programsv) Gaming/artworkvi) Engineering/architecture plansvii)Build the Heliodisplay into furniture

Teleconferencing using heliodisplay

Presentation using Heliodisplay

OTHER DISPLAY SYSTEMS

FOGSCREENS

Fogscreen is a display surface made out of a cloud of water vapor diffused into the air as a very dry fog

PERSPECTA A real 3D image is

generated by Perspecta display, which draws 2D

images on a quickly rotating screen to fill

the entire volume swept out by its path

CONCLUSION•Heliodisplay has great potential and would be ideal for collaborative work•Heliodisplays is still in the initial stages and the flaws of cost and environment of positioning will soon be overcome.•Several other thin air-displays are available but heliodisplay outclasses them, because of the attention it draws and its maintainability, and as a result it has more market value•Its various applications such as in advertising, a board room etc suggests that future scope is very bright.
