The New Opportunities Inc. (N.O.I.) Early
Head Start program has a long history of
providing high quality education to young
children as shown by assessment results.
The NOI Early Head Start program utilizes
the child assessment tool, Teaching
Strategies GOLD, a seamless system of
assessing children birth to kindergarten.
GOLD assesses infants and toddlers in
seven developmental areas shown in each
graph to the right. Also, the three annual
assessment points are illustrated in each
graph. In assessing progress, children fall
into one of the following areas of
development:
Below developmental expectations
Meets developmental expectations
Exceeds developmental expectations
The results of the 2011-2012 program year
indicated that progress was made by the
infants and toddlers enrolled and
participating in the Early Head Start
program from September 2011 through
May 2012.

New Opportunities, Inc. (N.O.I.) Head Start
uses the Teaching Strategies Gold as the
assessment tool to measure growth in
children ages 3-5 in preschool skills
development. This valid and reliable tool
outlines the progress of each child in
relation to curriculum goals which helps
staff and families decide what will help the
child develop and learn.
In assessing progress from Fall of 2011 to
Spring of 2012, children fall into one of the
following areas of development:
Below developmental expectations
Meets developmental expectations
Exceeds developmental expectations
Note the large decrease from Fall to Spring
in children initially below developmental
expectations into the meeting or exceeding
developmental expectations categories.
