Personal Life

o Born on 19 June, 1950 to a Parsi family in Mumbai

o Hafeez’s mother, Roshan Contractor was a teacher by profession and father Sorab Contractor , a business man

o Right from his childhood days, Hafeez loved designing aero planes, forts, security systems, etc

Education Life

o Hafeez Contractor completed his diploma in architecture from the University of Mumbai in 1975

o He further completed his graduation and MS in architecture from Columbia University, New York City on a Tata scholarship

Career

o For Hafeez, his first working opportunity was with his uncle T. Khareghat. He worked with him even while pursuing his architectural degree

o In the year 1977, Hafeez became the associate partner in the firm

o Between 1977 and 1980, he was a visiting faculty member at the Academy of Architecture, Mumbai

o In the year 1983, Hafeez started his own firm called Architect Hafeez Contractor

Success Stories

o Hafeez is a member of the Bombay Heritage Committee and New Delhi Lutyens Bungalow Zone Review Committee

o One of his most successful stories was the Vastu building at Worli Seaface

o After Vastu, Hafeez bagged many projects in Pune for Karia Builders and a lot of other residential buildings

o The tallest buildings in India, The Imperial I and II, are Hafeez’s yet another great accomplishment

o Kalpataru Square, the commercial complex at Andheri East developed by Kalpataru Builders and designed by Hafeez Contractor was the first project in Asia to earn the prestigious Leadership in Energy and Environment Design (Leed) Platinum Core and Shell certification.
