Guideline of the application for MEXT Scholarship for 2021 in Cambodia

*Due to the effect of the Covid-19 pandemic, many major changes are made for the selection process of MEXT for
2021. Please carefully read the guidelines and this explanatory materials for more details.

* If you have outstanding academic achievement in Japan that meets a certain criteria, you may be extended your
scholarship period upon a successful examination by MEXT.

III. Benefits of MEXT Scholarship
MEXT Scholarship will provide the following benefits to successful candidates:
(1) Allowance:
From 117,000 yen per month for
Undergraduate Students, College of Technology Students,
and Specialized Training College Students
From 143,000 yen per month for Research Students
(2) Education Fees: Fee for the entrance examination, matriculation and tuition
at designated school will be paid by MEXT
(3) Traveling Expense: Transportation to/from Japan

The Embassy will shortlist the
maximum of 80 students to the
Written Examination for each
category of scholarship based on
their transcript and essay.
The criteria to decide the successful candidates:
• Research: Both scores of the Written Examination and
evaluation of Research Proposal
• Other categories : Scores of the Written Examination
The successful candidates of the Written Examination will
proceed to the interview. Candidates who passed the
interview will be recommended to MEXT by the Embassy.
However, this is not the final selection.
The final selection is a competition
against all the candidates who passed
the same selection in their respective
country.
IV. Selection Process and Schedule
Important Note:
In cases listed below, candidates will be disqualified
even if the Embassy receives the application:
1. Candidates do not fulfil all the requirements.
2. Candidates do not submit all the necessary documents.
3. Candidates do not use the forms designated by the Embassy.
4. Candidates do not follow the deadline set by the Embassy.
5. Candidates submit more than one application form.

VII. Written Examination
(1)Written Examination will be held at the Embassy of Japan on different day for each category
to keep proper social distancing and air ventilation.
(2) Candidates will get their temperature checked. If it is higher than 37.5 degree, he/she will not
be accepted to join the Written Examination. You are required to wear face mask during the examination.
(3) Candidates shall follow other conditions which will be released one week before the
examination day.

Candidates must take all required subjects.
Note for Written Examination
Candidates must take all required subjects, including Japanese.
The language used in the Written Examinations is English, not Khmer, except for Japanese
test.
Any scores of other English proficiency tests(such as TOEFL and IELTS)are not required.
Candidates whose majors need Japanese proficiency, such as education of Japanese language, are required to have high scores in Japanese
Candidates for Research Students who got 0 point in English or gave in a blank
paper in Japanese will not be selected.
Candidates for Undergraduate, College of Technology and Specialized Training College
Students who got 0 point in one of the subjects will not be selected.
