For many course assignments, you will be required to use scholarly journals.

“Scholarly Journals” are also called:

• “Academic” Journals• “Peer-Reviewed” Journals• “Refereed” Journals

Scholarly journals are often "refereed" before publication by an editorial board or outside scholars

Scholars, researchers, or students in the field

Written by specialists and scholars

Often include author's credentials

Original research results and scholarship

Articles are 5+ pages

Usually 7-16 pages

Usually published

Citations are cited in-text

Includes a bibliography and/or footnotes

According to Jones (1998), "Students often had difficulty using APA style, especially when it was their first time" (p. 199).
