GREY / BLACK online magazine www.grey-black.com FASHION - ART - DESIGN The 9th Issue of GREY/BLACK is inspired from Halloween. Halloween, a undeniably dark theme that absolutely fascinates us. A day that hasso many layers of connotations which we adore. The editorials were constructed by elements that denote Halloween not so evidently. Some of the elements that inspired us were masks, clowns, horror films, fairies, witches, ghosts and the grim reaper. This theme enables us to express our vision through an editorial direction rather than the literal one while always bearing in mind the biggest trends of the fall.

It is that day of the year, a day full of inspiration, a day that has a

distinct energy that it is unavoidable for us not to feel inspired. Halloween,

a undeniably dark theme that absolutely fascinates us. A day that has

so many layers of connotations which we adore. The editorials were

constructed by elements that denote Halloween not so evidently. Some

of the elements that inspired us were masks, clowns, horror films, fairies,

witches, ghosts and the grim reaper. This theme enables us to express our

vision through an editorial direction rather than the literal one while

always bearing in mind the biggest trends of the fall. For the design

section we chose objects made out of concrete, fascinated as to how

a conventional material like concrete can be utilized in design objects

unconventionally. The art section presents Zaha Hadid’s world of

architecture exhibition at DAC museum in Copenhagen.

The transformation, the transition, the mystery surrounding a clown is what inspired us to create this story. The intention was to create something mysterious yet unconventional. The clown was used as the focal point of inspiration and transformed it to our beauty editorial. The mystery behind the colours and the exaggeration of the features are the essential elements of our story.

SciFi and mythical creatures fascinates us tremendously and this story was constructed by fairies, mermaids and aliens. We created a hybrid of the three, a creature mysterious yet pure covered in darkness. The sense of abandonment and hiding the knowledge of something forbidden yet unknown are the emotions we tried to project. We focused on the major trends of the season, layering, mixed proportions and leathers combined with sportswear.

Darkness, death, spirits and the angel of the death are the components for our male editorial. Darkness has a certain sentiment of pureness, a unique emotion, the pureness that is behind the dark veil. The main trend of the season is outerwear, a plethora of leathers and materials mixed with tailored pieces and capes is what the fall runways demanded us to follow.

Witches, ghosts and undead being are the main characters of this special day. Constantly inspired by these figures we created something dark yet serene and calm. We wanted to present something that looks evil but at the same time has something good hidden deep inside. The latest collection of Three Floor was a perfect match for this story having a contrast between futuristic and romantic pieces that compliment our theme.

We had the pleasure attenuating the event M&M strikes back organized by the stylist Maria-Ioannou and jewellery designer Maria-Chara Themistokleous. Maria-Irene had hand picked stylistic finds from Paris and Maria-Chara presented her fall jewellery collection. The amazing location in the heart of old Nicosia was suitable forthe occasion.

Concrete, is one of the most common materials that you see almost everywhere you go. The fact that a conventional material like concrete can become modern and unconventional is inspiring. We chose small everyday objects that belong in every household unconventionally made out of concrete.

The Iraqi-British architect Zaha Hadid is one of the most admired

and discussed architects in the world. She also happens to be the only

woman in the “premier league” of architecture, and the first female

architect to receive the prestigious Pritzker Architecture Prize - “the

Nobel Prize of architecture”.

For the past 30 years, Zaha Hadid has challenged the boundaries of architecture

with her sensual, expressive architectural language which has become an icon

for our vision of the global architecture of tomorrow. Examples of her work

include: the MAXXI Museum of Contemporary Art in Rome (2010), Guangzhou

Opera House (2010), the BMW Central Building in Leipzig (2005), London

Aquatic Centre (2012) and, in Denmark, the extension to the museum

Ordrupgaard (2005), situated north of Copenhagen. For this summer’s major

exhibition at the Danish Architecture Centre, Zaha Hadid Architects have

created an extraordinary exhibition experience. You will enter a world of towers,

floating shells, selected projects and designer objects. Everything is presented

in a borderless scenic universe, showing how Zaha Hadid’s spectacular buildings

and designs arise out of a progressive digital and geometric universe.
