Greenwillow Portrait is a lyric work in the British folk-song style. Care should be taken to maintain a smooth, flowing quality throughout (never hurried). At measure 27 , the trumpets and upper woodwinds should play legato, with the low brass and woodwinds slightly marcato for contrast. At measure 35 , care should be taken so that the background does not overshadow the melody in the 1st alto sax and oboe. The crescendo starting at measure 43 should be gradual. The final chord in the trombones and baritones should release cleanly with the staccato eighth note in the bass instruments and timpani.
