“The recovery plan turns the immense challenge we face into an opportunity, not only by supporting the recovery but also by investing in our future: the European Green Deal and digitalization will boost jobs and growth, the

resilience of our societies and the health of our environment.”

- European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen

1 Billion Euro is pledged to ensuring this

Rising focus on the building sector

SPECIFIC CHALLENGE

design and construction of new or retrofitting of existing buildings as zero-emission/zero-pollution, positive energy houses within sustainable green neighbourhoods.

The two major components of this transition are:

• designing and constructing buildings to reduce their embodied emissions and increase their energy efficient operation. Retrofitting existing buildings to increase their energy efficiency.

• energy positive buildings (producing electricity, covering their heating and cooling needs and contributing to the grid stability) with sustainable, renewable energy technologies

The priority is

• Spreading such building concept allows the creation of green neighbourhood “living labs”

• social housing and non-residential buildings:

• hospitals,

• schools,

• public buildings,

• commercial buildings,

• etc.

• with additional urban functionalities

(e.g. shared EV charging facilities)

Specific Challenge

SCOPE

• At least two

• (residential and non-residential, new and/or retrofitted)

• large-scale, real-life demonstrations

• of promising technology, process and social innovations

• in different regions of Europe

Scalability design of neighbourhoods

Well embedded in the spatial, economic, technical, environmental, regulatory and social context of the demonstration sites

Proposals are expected to deliver -

Building and renovating in an energy and resource efficient way

Seamless industrial construction/renovation workflows

Recycling/reuse of construction materials

Materials and components reduction

Reduced maintenance costs and long-term performance

Socio-environmental: air quality/natural ventilation, natural lighting

Keep fire and seismic safety of the buildings

Minimizing disruption for building occupants

Delivering post-construction / renovation monitoring

Durability of the construction/renovation components

Building and renovating in an energy and resource efficient way

Building designs incorporating thermal design and orientation

Climatic conditions

Solutions for the building envelope

Digital and EGNSS based methods of design and construction
