Great Plains:The Sioux

Region and Environment
They live in the Great Plains Some of the topographic
features are treeless grassland with cold winters and hot summers.
The natural resources are the animals that provided clothing and the river that provided food.

Food
The Sioux hunt buffalo, deer, and elk.
They eat berries, wild greens, camas roots, and prairie turnit.

Housing
They live in teepees made of 15-50 buffalo hides.
In the summer the flaps open so they can get a nice breeze.
In winter the flaps close to keep them warm.

History
During the expedition the Sioux made trade with Lewis and Clark after Lewis and Clark meant no harm.

Culture of the Tribe (Art & Way of Life)
ART: They used wooden beads to decorate things in geometric patterns.
WAY OF LIFE: The sun dance is a ceremony for the Native Americans.
