Things don’t always work out the way you like.
Derek Redmond was a world-class runner from England.At the 1992 Barcelona Olympics, he was strongly favoured to win. When the gun signalled the beginning of the race, Derek exploded out of the blocks. From the very moment he started sprinting, it seemed apparent he would win. Things don’t always work out the way you like.
In a painful and humiliating moment, Derek's hamstring snapped.
The pain was so intense, he collapsed on the track.
However, then and there Derek did the unexpected.
He got up.
He began to hop down the track. As he hobbled along in sheer agony, a man pushed his way past the security guards and ran onto the track.
The man was Derek's father. He put his arm around his son and told him he did not have to finish the race. But Derek kept going, sobbing as he went.
He didn’t give up!And so, Derek crossed the finish line… The crowd of 65,000 people came to their feet and gave him a standing ovation.
It was the loudest ovation of the games. In spite of the pain... in spite of the humiliation... in spite of the shattered Olympic dream.
Derek finished the race!
Are you determined to finish your race?You may not be the most successful. You may have big obstacles between you and your goals.Don't let these things stop you.Whatever you aim yourself toward... keep going and...FINISH.
At times, it may take heroic inspiration, courage, determination and perseverance, but you will cross the finish line.You will be a winner…
