Christine Anu
What a day! What an experience! The audience was enthralled when Christine Anu came to sing and share her culture with us. We learned about the Torres Strait, her home language and some traditional instruments. We also sang, laughed and were thoroughly entertained. She truly is a national Treasure!
Special thanks to Janet and Ana for setting up for her and thank you to everyone who came along to support this wonderful event. “Eso”!

Our canteen has passed the NSW Healthy Canteen menu Check! Congratulations to
Shayma for working hard behind the scenes to ensure we offer a high percentage of “everyday” healthy foods. Shayma presented to the P&C and we have received our official certificate of compliance! Watch out for a new menu to come.
Learning Conversations have begun for Kindergarten and some Year 1 students. For those new to our school—Learning Conversations is our way of sharing, informing and reporting. It’s part of our GEPS-Connects strategy.
Why Learning Conversations? We believe that all members of our community are learners and that we learn best together.
What are they?
• a 3-way conversation (teacher – student – families);
• all voices are heard;
• half an hour, twice a year;
• focused on your child’s learning;
• includes personalised tips for help at home. Impact!
2019 World Autism Awareness Week "On World Autism Awareness Day, we speak out against discrimination, celebrate the diversity of our global community and strengthen our commitment to the full inclusion and participation of people with autism. Supporting
them to achieve their full potential is a vital part of our efforts to uphold the core promise of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development: to leave no one behind."
Secretary-General António Guterres
Autism is a lifelong neurodevelopmental condition. It is characterised by differences in behaviour, social interaction, communication, special interests and sensory processing. These differences can present people on the autism spectrum with challenges in how they interact with their environment.

JELO – Study of other cultures
Next term our JELO program will include the study of Australia as a place as well as it Indigenous history.
Classroom Yarning Circles
Our 3-6 team have included yarning circles in their weekly lessons. A yarning circle is an important Aboriginal and Torre strait islander tradition and is something all students can engage in. Having yarning circles in classrooms provides a structure where students can have discussion in a safe, respectful way. We cover various topics in our discussions including current events, issues within the school and literacy topics. We value yarning circles as they are a place where trust and relationships are built.

GEPS Reconciliation Action Plan
This term we have started to investigate the development of a Reconciliation Action plan. We believe in the importance of developing respectful relationships and meaningful opportunities where we can connect with Aboriginal and Torres strait islander people. Developing a plan will help us to move forward in our reconciliation journey.
Garden Yarning circle
One of our next whole school projects is to build an outdoor yarning circle in our garden area.
