CHAPTER VI
PRIORITIZATION OF HEALTH PROBLEMS
This chapter serves as tool called scale for ranking
health conditions and problems according to priorities. It
determines the nature of condition or problem presented
the modifiability of the condition, preventive potential, and
salience. It will show how the family health problems were
rated according to each criterion.
I. Presence of Health Threats
Table a. Accident hazards specifically pointed/sharp
objects, poisons and medicines improperly kept
Criteria Computation Actual
Score
Justification
Nature of
the Problem
2/3 x 1 0.67 It is a health threat
since the condition
may result to accident
7/31/2019 Grand FCS A Chap 6
2/38
and may pose an
effect on the health of
the family.Modifiability
of the
Problem
2/2 x 2 2 This problem is easily
modifiable since it can
be managed through
proper health
teachings and withthe help of the family
itself to change their
way of keeping things
that can pose effect
on their health.
Preventive
Potential
3/3 x 1 1 If this problem will be
properly intervened,
risks for accidents on
pointed objects,
poisons and
medicines can be
highly prevented.
7/31/2019 Grand FCS A Chap 6
3/38
Salience 0 x 1 0 The family does not
consider this as a
problem since theyhave not experienced
any accidents from
these objects.
Total: 3.67
Table b. Accident hazards specifically fire hazards
Criteria Computation Actual
Score
Justification
Nature of
the Problem
2/3 x 1 0.67 It is a health threat
because it may pose
a potential effect on
the familys health
and condition if not
given attention.
Modifiability
of the
Problem
1/2 x 2 1 The problem is
partially modifiable
because financial
matter needs to be
7/31/2019 Grand FCS A Chap 6
4/38
considered to
improve the condition
of their house whichis made of light
materials. The
familys current
resources are
presently notadequate considering
the other problems,
but through health
teachings, their risk
for this problem can
be minimized.
Preventive
Potential
3/3 x 1 1 The risk for fire
accident can highly
be minimized if this
problem is properly
managed and
intervened.
7/31/2019 Grand FCS A Chap 6
5/38
Salience 2/2 x 1 1 The family consider it
as problem that
needs immediateattention since their
house is made up of
light materials and
their cooking area is
located inside theirhouse. This made the
family alarmed that
they may be prone to
fire accidents.
Total: 3.67
Table c. Accident hazards specifically fall hazards
Criteria Computation Actual
Score
Justification
Nature ofthe Problem
2/3 x 1 0.67 It is a health threatthat may cause future
accident and may
7/31/2019 Grand FCS A Chap 6
6/38
pose an effect on the
health of the family.
Modifiabilityof the
Problem
1/2 x 2 1 The problem ispartially modifiable
because in this
problem, financial
matter needs to be
considered. There isa need for resources
to improve the
condition of their
house. Apparently,
the family resources
are not adequate for
improving their
environment
considering other
problems, but through
proper health
teachings and
7/31/2019 Grand FCS A Chap 6
7/38
participation of the
family members, this
problem can partiallybe minimized.
Preventive
Potential
3/3 x 1 1 If properly managed,
threat to the familys
health will be
minimized. It will alsoprevent further harm
to Mrs. Z since she
has a problem with
her leg.
Salience 1/2 x 1 0.5 The family
recognized this as a
problem. However,
they do not see this
as a problem needing
immediate attention.

that requires
immediate
management to
eliminate untoward
consequences.
Modifiability
of the
Problem
1/2 x 2 1 The problem is

by helping family in
effective budgeting of
the money and time.Development of skills
of the members of the
family in terms of
good nutrition- proper
food selection andpreparation and

Preventive
Potential
3/3 x 1 1 Susceptibility to other
disease can be
prevented if
unhealthful eating
habits will be
changed. Proper
budgeting and
development of the
skills of the members
in proper selection

such problem and is

diseases brought
about by unhealthy
eating habits due to
inadequate
resources.
