Verb + ing

- enjoy- finish- stop

- playing sports

Verb + To + Infinitive Verb

- choose- decide- forget- promise- need- help

- hope- try- want- would like- would love- would hate

- to play sports

Verb + ing or Verb + To + Infinitive Verb

- begin- start- continue- prefer- like- love- hate

- playing sports or- to play sports

Preposition + Verb~ing;Verb + Someone / Something + To +

Infinitive Verb

Preposition + Verb~ing

➔There are many prepositions in English:

- in- on- about- at

- of- before- after- with

➔If you want to use a verb after a preposition, the verb must be changed to verb~ing.

Examples- We talked about taking a trip.- Please focus on studying hard.

Examples of When to Use Prepositions with Verb~ing

- be excited about- compared to- talk about- think about- be sad about

- be interested in- be good at- be bad at- instead of- be happy about

Verb + Someone / Something + To + Infinitive Verb

➔This is an important verb pattern when talking about something or someone.

Example- I asked him to close the door.

In this example, my action was ask. His action was close the door.

Below are some verbs that can be used with this verb pattern

- want- would like- would love- tell

- ask- invite- need

Notice the difference between the two verb patterns.

- I want to leave.- I want you to leave.- She would like to do that.- She would like me to do that.
