Learning Target: Students will be able to define and recognize vocabulary from

context clues in “The Lion and the Mouse”.

Background: This is a review lesson over

vocabulary for the short story “The Lion and the Mouse”.

● Students will define vocabulary words for “The Lion and the Mouse”.

● Students will recall background knowledge to review vocabulary.

● Students will learn how to recognize unfamiliar words by using context clues.

Warm-Up/Background Knowledge: Let’s think back to yesterday’s lesson from Basic Reading April 27 and recall the words we learned! Try and match the Vocab Word to the Definition.

Common Misunderstanding

When reading the word “Gnawed” remember the G is silent. When you say it is should sound like “Nawed”. No G!
