Science
We have had a very exciting month in science. Right now we are learning about ecosystems, plants, and animals. We have watched a very interesting documentary about the sun, an episode of how a sewage treatment plant works which might have not been such a great idea considering we just had breakfast. We then made children’s books that describe the procedure of the water treatment plant. We all decided who would be the winner of our competition on who created the best children’s story and it turned out to be Josh and Gabe!
Spelling & Grammar
In Spelling and Grammar this month we learned about the simple subjects and verbs, the sentence base, adverbs, adjectives, compound subjects, simple and compound sentences, and much more. We also played fun grammar games to help us understand and practice the concepts we learned.
Math & Art
MathIn Math, we explored the world of fractions by learning how to add, subtract, multiply, and divide fractions. We also learned about B.E.D.M.A.S and multiplication.
ArtThis month we worked on pop art, landscape paintings, and learned about the 7 elements of art, which include; lines, shapes, colour, texture, shade, tint, and space. We also learned about the principles of design, which is about the rhythm, variety, harmony, and emphasis of a piece of art work.

DEAR SHIRLEY
How do I get a girl I have a crush on to fall in love with me? She doesn’t even know who I am or that I like her.
-‐Grade 8 Student
Dear Grade 8 Student,
Getting a girl to fall in love with you is not easy. All men struggle with this one ordeal for most of their lives. I suggest you become more involved with her, sit down & chat, get the message across to her that you might have a crush. When the time comes, respond to that with asking her out to a casual lunch, or maybe even a movie! Take it slow, and it normally works out!
Good Luck,-Shirley
How do I study for a mid-‐term exam with so much stress already on me from other the other classes?
-‐Stressed Child
Dear Stressed Child,
The midterms are always a difKiculty. I assume you are not/have not yet been in TPS’ incredible Learning Strategies class! The Kirst step is to organize your materials. The second step is to Kind a routine to review your materials and learn the stuff. The third step is to get a good night’s sleep and eat well the night/morning before. If you follow these steps, you will have a much better chance of achieving a better grade!
You’ll Do Great,-Shirley

Software UpdateAt Toronto Prep School, we are a macbook school. Each and every one of us students has one of these apple machines. What can we really do to make it really our own? There are a variety of things from dock changing applications to just simply changing your desktop background. When attempting to customize my own computer I ran into a dilemma, most of the programs that I needed or wanted were designed for the PC. I did find a few programs though. Dock Doctor gives you the option of changing the style and color of your dock, there are a few options but you have the ability to download more. Another cool application is Candy Bar. Candy bar lets you change each and every icon on your computer, from the finder icon to your cursor. The last application that I came across was dock view. Dock View is a program that when you scroll over an open application on your dock it gives you a small preview of the open program in a small window. These three applications are easy to use, easy to find, and very useful tools while operating a Macbook computer.

A small tribute to the gods of rock and roll such as Pink Floyd, Alice Cooper, Ozzy Osborne, Black Sabbath, ACDC and of course the one and only, Led Zeppelin. As a kid who basically grew up on these legends of rock, I have a strong sense of taste when it comes to rock and
roll… particularly when you add in the screaming electric guitar solo in the middle of the song. Music is important for people who like to kick back, but most of all to me its an escape to where you want your imagination to be. - Signy Harvey
