God is Spirit

Two meanings for ‘Spirit’: Wind Breath

Jesus says that God is Spirit.

“God is Spirit”

(John 4:24)

Wind

What do we know about the wind?

The wind is powerful…

…and unpredictable!

Breath

The primary sign of life God is alive!

Use it to speakOur God is a

speaking being!

God is Spirit

His nature is Spirit personal, conscious, living, and active.

“’Am I a God near at hand,’ says the LORD, ‘And not a God afar off?’”

(Jeremiah 23:25)

God is Spirit

Personal, yet: He is without a body

No flesh or blood, or any sort of body He is invisible No physical properties like size, weight,

shape, texture or smell. It is impossible and sinful to try to

make a physical representation of God.

Infinite

God fills all space

God is not limited by space

“Do I not fill heaven and earth? declares the LORD.”

(Jeremiah 23:25)

“The heavens, even the highest heaven, cannot contain you!”

(1 Kings 8:27)

He measures the heavens with a span

God does not have handsIt is just a picture to help us

understand that:God is infinite…what we measure in

light years is as nothing to Him.

Eternal

Our life is like a blink of an eye. There is a Youtube video sequence of a

girl whose parents took a photograph of her every day from her birth to her tenth birthday. These pictures are shown one after another and her 10 years of life is speeded up to last 1 minute and 25 seconds! “We spend our

years like a tale that is told.”

(Psalm 90:9)

Eternal

God never began to be God has no age and he does not

grow or develop God will never cease to exist He is the only true ‘timelord.’

“The everlasting God…the King eternal…immortal…enthroned as King forever…the Lord, the eternal God.”

(1 Timothy 1:17)

Unchangeable

“The earth and heavens will perish, but you remain. Yes, they will all wear out… but

you remain the same” (Psalm 102:26)“I, the LORD, do not

change” (Malachi

3:6)“…the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows” (James

1:17)
