GPSGlobal Positioning System
The Global Positioning System (GPS) is a space-based satellite navigation system that provides location and time information in all weather conditions, anywhere on or near the Earth
Global Positioning System
HistoryDirect outcome of second world war.In early 1970’s an experiment was proposed ,satellites can find the position .This vision is called GPS.Realized after 20 years.
Global Positioning System
Structure
There are three main parts of GPSSpace segment Control segmentUser segment
Space Segment
The GPS system currently has 31 active satellites in orbits
The orbits are designed so that there are always 6 satellites in view, from most places on the earth.
Global Positioning System
Control segment
These are stations on the Earth that send and receive data by way of the satellite.
User Segment
This part consists of user receivers.
The GPS receivers detect, decode and process signals from satellite.
Gives output in the form of map.
Mechanism
The GPS receiver gets a signal from each GPS satellite
The satellites transmit the exact time the signals are sentBy subtracting the time the signal was transmitted from the time it was received, the GPS can tell how far it is from each satellite.
Features of GPS
It does not require internet connection for its operation.
It uses radio waves.
It works in all weather conditions.
Applications
Aircrafts uses this system.
It gives position on Earth or near Earth.
It gives the map of desired place.
Applications
Track your luggage, laptops, and anything of importance while traveling
One can get to time sensitive destination faster by finding shortcuts and correct directions.
One can track stolen phone
