The Big Picture

Philosophy: The game, Giants, Wizards, and Elves is an activity that not only encourages engaging

physical and mental activity but promotes children to become confident with in themselves while increasing their ability of mutual support within a group setting.

TEKS that Relate

• §116.6. Physical Education, Grade 3.• (7)  Social development. The student develops

positive self-management and social skills needed to work independently and with others in physical activity settings. The student is expected to:

• (A)  follow rules, procedures, and etiquette;• (B)  respond to winning and losing with dignity

and understanding;•

What are Giants, Wizards, and Elves?

• The group of children are being told what each character of the game means:– Giant-tiptoes,raises

hands above head, curl fingers and makes growling sounds

– Wizard-crotches slightly waves and points magic wand and shouting “kazaam”

– Elf-haunches hands cropped for big ears and shrills screeching noises

Lets Practice-Confidence

• The students will have time to practice the 3 characters

The Two Teams-Support

• The leader will form two teams of children. The students together as a team will have time to discuss what characters they want to be. After both teams have decided the leader will have the two teams lined up one in front of the other; face to face( as if in a western draw)

Here We Go-Coordination

• The leader announces 1…2…3…and all the teams will adopt their position and thus reveal their identity

And They are Off

• Once students identify themselves as a:– Giant, they squish

an elf– Elf, they outwit a

wizard– Wizard they zap a

giant

The Safe Zone

• There is a safe zone where the players can run to not be captured

And Here We Go Again-Well Being

• Those tagged children from the chased team will then become members of the other team
