INTRODUCTION

Gi-Fi is the world’s first tranciever integrated on a single chip.

Operates at 60GHz on the CMOS process.

Gi-Fi allows wireless transfer of audio and video data up to

5Gbps.

Gi-Fi is ten times the current maximum wireless transfer rate

usually within a range of 10 meters.

COMPARISON

WHY Gi-fi?

The reason for pushing into Gi-Fi technology is because of :-

High power consumption

Low range of frequency operations

of earlier technologies i.e.,Bluetooth

and Wi-Fi.

Slow rate

Working principle

Technology used1.Multi input multi output2.System On Package

Time Division Duplex

TRANSMITTER

Data files from IF range to RF range(60GHz).

Conversion using 2 mixers.

Fed to a power amplifier.

Fed to a millimeter wave antenna.

EXPLANATION

RECIEVER

RF signal is down converted to IF signal centered at 5GHz.

Converted to normal data range using heterodyne principle.

Filetered by using a LPF.

Amplified using an IF amplifier.

EXPLANATION

Millimeter wave antenna used will operate at 60GHz frequencywhich is unlicensed band. Because of this band, we areachieving high data rates.

Energy propagation in the 60 GHz band has uniquecharacteristics that makes possible many other benefits suchas excellent immunity to co-channel interference, high securityand frequency re-use.

WHY 60 GHz ?

APPLICATIONS

1.Gi-Fi access devices

2. Broadcasting Video Signal Transmission System inSports Stadium

3. Office Appliances

4. Video Information Transfer

5. Inter Vehicle Communication System

FUTURE CONSIDERATIONS

The Gi-Fi integrated transceiver chip may be launched by end of this year by NICTA.

Due to less cost of chip, so many companies came forward to launch with lower

cost.

The potential of mw-WPAN for ultra fast data exchange has prompted companies

like Intel, LG, Matsushita (Panasonic), NEC, Samsung, Si BEAM, Sony and Toshiba to

form Wireless HD, an industry-led effort to define a specification for the next

generation consumer electronics products.
