Health as a Human Right

The UN General Assembly proclaimed December 10th as Human Rights Day in 1950, to bring to the attention ‘of the peoples of the world’ the Universal Declaration of Human Rights as the common standard of achievement for all peoples and all nations.

"As we commemorate the 20th anniversary of the Vienna Declaration and Programme of Action, let us intensify our efforts to fulfill our collective responsibility to promote and protect the rights and dignity of all people everywhere.”

- Secretary-General Ban Ki Moon

Global Health Corps believes that health is a human right and everyone deserves to have access to the services and information they need to live a full and happy life.

In solidarity with the UN on the 20th anniversary of the establishment of Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, we asked Global Health Corps fellows what they thought were the important questions to ask as we work to build the movement for health equity.

When will we make the easily preventable and treatable Neglected Tropical Diseases a higher

priority in global health?

Is it possible to achieve 0 deaths from HIV? How?

Where’s the Spirit?

How can we make economic development and health go hand-in-hand?

Why aren’t more people/organizations thinking about the relationship between health & the built

environment?

How does global health tie into the global fight against climate change?

How can the built environment make us all healthier?

What is YOUR added value in the field of global health?

How can we improve the supply chain to make sure that life saving medicines reach patients

who need them?

What can we do to fully break the stigma of talking about AIDS so that the most at-risk communities join

the conversation?

How can we break down the silos for health equity?

What can you do from where you are right now to address inequality?

How do you mobilize for social justice across disciplines?

What are the best practices that can be used to strengthen public sector efforts for decentralized health

service delivery?

When will you become a GHC fellow???
