Field News—Costa RicaWe have now been back in Costa Rica for a few weeks without a glitch from immigration! Pastor Mike and Sue Stevens
are here and our team is developing an awesome unity. We are great friends and enjoy being a light of God’s grace and life to the endless commotion of many people “just making a living”. Outreaches have already seen many salvations. I met Roger last May at a baseball field and the Lord gave us a divine connection. He has embraced the riches of grace deeply and has been with us ever since.
The friendships that have developed these past months (and years) are resuming, and that puts a big smile on our faces. The start of services is around the corner. Bible college around the next corner. To those who have inquired about joining the team or visiting, may the Lord give you expedience! Come and join us for the new beginnings here in the land of PURA VIDA. We are looking forward to Salim and Mona from Montreal to join us in November.
Lucy and I met Dennis, a missionary from Oregon, on our trip here last year. Dennis and Joyce are not only good friends, but also great encouragers. One day Dennis and I walked up to a bus stop where a mother and daughter were just ‘waiting’ to hear some good news. After they received the Gospel, we applied a new “method of evangelism” and said, “The next bus that comes on either side of the road, we will take it.” We ended up an hour south in the town of Quepos and went with the excitement of His leading. Many heard the Gospel and some were transferred from darkness into the kingdom of our Savior. Near the end of the day, I gave a tract to a guy through a window in the back of the bus. As it turned out, Alejandro and I have kept in touch and he really wants us to have a Bible study in his town near Jaco Beach.
Last June, the senior class of Greater Grace visited us. What do you do with a group of teenagers who love to share their faith? Throw them on a zip line flying over a deep jungle ravine to put the “fear of God” in them and then drop them off in the “jungle of reason” at the town square and watch it all come out. I was truly blessed by the unity and desire that these young adults brought to the streets of Costa Rica. These are some of their fruit: “These two guys would love to go to Bible college!” “Here is the info for this guy who wants to really help the church start.” “This girl just asked Jesus in her heart!”
On the UCR campus there was one lone student on a rainy day practicing his goal shots down on the soccer field and a voice came from behind me, “Should I go get him?” Before long, 8 barefoot crazy guys were befriending this student by meeting him “where he was at”. Then, we met Oliver, had him translate for us, invited him to come eat with us, and now he has a great desire to hear the Finished Work every week. Thanks to Pastors Love, Pete and Sturge for preparing our youth through the years and bringing them here. Their impact was eternal.
The time has come for Costa Rica. We are on the streets daily encouraging people to “come and see.” As believers, we have the best message in the world. By faith in Jesus everyone can have their sins forgiven and receive His perfect righteousness. It is all about what Jesus has done. All we’re doing is getting the message out.
