Art Teacher Blogs
• The best advocacy tool you can have• It can be any format you like• Use your own voice• Publish your students’ artwork• Post notices of coming attractions• Share with parents, teachers, and administrators
SchoolArtsRoom Blog
How Do I Write?• Tell a story• Write in a conversational voice• Don’t worry about the length; just write what you need to tell a story• Read it out loud• Have someone else read it• Use spell check and grammar
What About Photographs?
• High quality photographs are required• For print reproduction, photos must be at least 300 dpi or 1MB• For web reproduction, 72 dpi is fine• Use the fine or highest setting on a digital camera• Shoot in natural light• Keep backgrounds as simple as possible.
Getting Started• Get a good idea
• Find an audience (check out the commercial exhibits)
• Write to the audience
• Find a publisher (one at a time)
• Be ready to be rejected• Submit until someone likes your idea
Why Bother?
• Advocacy for your own program and for art programs everywhere
• Self esteem• Professionalism• Recognition• Proud students and parents

Remember…• The first writing is the most difficult
to publish. Start small.
• Published articles can open the door for other opportunities.
• It becomes easier.
• It’s worthwhile.
