Circle This is a picture of

raspberry jam in canning jars.

It was taken last summer after we had just made raspberry jam.

The tops of the jars are circles. This means that there is equal distance to the center from all points of the jar.

Pentagon This is a soccer ball. I

took this out of my garage to take the picture. Not all soccer balls have a pentagon design, but a real soccer ball will have pentagons that are attached to create the sphere.

The design on the soccer ball is a polygon because it has 5 sides and 5 angles.

Square This is a picture of a

heart rate monitor watch. It is used for fitness training.

I took this picture after a workout.

The screen on this watch is square. This means that there are four sides and they are all equal.

Pyramid This is a photograph of

my great uncle decorating a cake.

The cake is made out of three tiers.

It is a pyramid because it is triangular shaped and has a point on top. The point on the top is the bride and groom for this wedding cake.

Rectangle This is a picture of my

parents Fenway Brick. They can be found

around the park at Fenway Park in Boston, MA.

This brick is a rectangle because there are four sides, two of the sides are equal and smaller than the other two sides that are equal to each other and longer.

Triangle This is a photograph of a

roof with detailed framework.

It was taken at the Spartan Complex at Castleton State College in Vermont.

A triangle has three straight sides and three angles.

Cone This is a cone that is used

in a kitchen. I found this cone in my

kitchen. A cone is circular and

decreases in size as it gets to the base. (In this photograph it is shown that the base is facing upright.)

Trapezoid This is a wooden picnic

bench. The photograph was

taken at my neighbors house.

It is a trapezoid because it is a quadrilateral with one pair being parallel lines.

Octagon This is a coaster that is

displayed in my house with the first letter of our last name.

An octagon has eight sides. In this case it is a small coaster, but an octagon can also be large.

Parallel Lines This is a picture of a red

giant slalom panel used in downhill skiing.

I took this picture this winter while coaching at Bousquet Ski Area.

Parallel lines are two lines that are continuous and will not cross.
