GEOGRAPHYSUMMER 1 – WEEK 5

WEEK BEGINNING 18.5.20

HUMAN AND PHYSICAL FEATURES IN THE LOCAL AREA

We are going to continue to work on human and physical features but look at different areas and start to identify differences between places. Have a look at the map you created of the local area from your last geography session.

(If you haven’t done the last session have a look at week 2 on the home learning page on the Ash Grove Academy website and do that session first J )

Remind yourself of the features you put onto your map.

Would the same buildings be in a forest, on a desert, at the beach? Have a little think and then have a look at the maps on the following slides.

HUMAN FEATURES

¡ Human features come from human ideas and actions. They have been built and made by humans.

PHYSICAL FEATURES

¡ Physical geography is the study of the Earth’s natural features.

Activity 1

Now have a look at the following maps and see if you can identify any human or features.

The Peak District

The Peak District

The Yorkshire Dales

The Yorkshire Dales

Anglesey

Anglesey

The maps that you have observed show areas that have more physical features in than the maps we looked at last time. These maps don’t have Burger King and shops shown on them. They have physical features like the sea, dales and appear more natural. There are some human features such as some of the national parks and Pooles Cavern which although have physical elements areas have been built to fulfil the purpose for a place to be visited.

ACTIVITY 2

We are now going to focus on Anglesey as I know that is a place that a lot of you have visited. I have attached links on the next slide you to have a look at and find out more information.

I would then like you to sketch a map of the area and label some of the physical features. You can use the maps on this PowerPoint and also the research you will do using the links on the next slide. I can’t wait to see what you create. You

can chose an area as big or small as you like to sketch your map.
