Where to startHeritageQuest is available either in the library or from home by going the library’s website www.tewksburypl.org. Select “Research”.

Select “Online Research”

Select “Local History & Genealogy”

Select “HeritageQuest”

Enter your library card number (no spaces) and select “Connect”.

Welcome to HeritageQuest!

Enter information and select "Search".

Search results

Select the “1860 Census”, Illinois State, then “Sangamon County”

This brings us to an overview of the record. To view the record select the individual’s surname.

Here we can view additional information about the record and below that the record itself.

We can see the listing here for Abraham Lincoln and his family.

Searching BooksYou can search by people, places and publications.

People searching can by by name, place or keyword.

Results are sorted by relevancy. You can view the instances where the subject appears in the book or go directly to the book.

When you select “View Hits” you can see more details. If the item was indexed it will also give the locations of where the person was mentioned in the book.

If you select “View Image” it will bring to you the beginning of the book.

PERSI (PERiodical Source Index) ArchiveThis can be searched by people and places. You can also search periodicals by title or research how to articles.

The people search includes surname, keywords and periodical information. Enter your criteria and select search.

Search results are given. To view additional information select the title.

Additional information about the article is provided. To receive a copy of the article you need to submit a request form. Some of the articles may be obtained through other resources, please speak to a librarian for more information.

When viewing images please note that most have multiple pages.

Search results can be sorted. To look at a record select the person's surname.

The record contains a summary and image of the document. This document also has a transcription.

Results can be sorted. To view a record select the title of the record.

Once a record is selected you can view an overview of the record and see where your search is mentioned in the document.

Viewing the record gives summary information and viewing/printing options at the top of the screen.

When we scroll down we can find Benedict Arnold mentioned in the article.
